Police Press Reporter's Head into Pepper-sprayed Liquid on the Ground

On May 11 at around 11:20pm, 50 civilians including TMHK reporter were encircled by the riot police at the intersection of Shantung Street and Sai Yeung Choi Street South. Police ordered all civilians to kneel on the ground and the detention lasted more than an hour.

According to TMHK reporter, riot police kept pepper-spraying pepper, forming and trapping the pungent liquid on the ground. Police then pressed the reporter's head on the ground for a certain duration, causing burnt and pain on his head, neck and back.

Police Pepperspray Reporters and Peaceful Civilians Without Warning

According to witness report, a police officer slipped, causing panic among his peers. Without any prior warning, the police pepper-sprayed the civilians and reporters on site.

Police then raised blue flag and accused the reporters and passersby walking on the pavement of "illegal assembly".

Meanwhile, as police charged in Dundas Street and Sai Yeung Choi South Street, many civilians were trapped inside the H&M shop.

After the reporters were peppersprayed, shops were shut down, as police vehicles arrived for reinforcement.

Reporters Attacked by Police "Water" Cannon Trucks Multiple Times

At around 1700, a RTHK reporter was hit by water cannon the second time, requiring medical attention from volunteer first aid. Around the same time, on Johnston Road / Fleming Road intersection in Wanchai, multiple reporters were also hit with liquid blasts during a police operation. Note, these "water" cannons are actually firing pepper spray liquid which stings the victim.
