Police arrested around 400 civilians in Causeway Bay, a downtown shopping area, on New Year Day.

Civilians were ordered to line up on the pavement and raise their hands while waiting to be checked and, if arrested, to be transported to the police stations.

At least 10 police vehicles deployed to transport hundreds of arrestees:

Foreigners hid in the fridge in an attempt to evade police tear gas attack

On New Year Day, police fired tear gas in downtown district, causing many passersby to choke and fall victim to the pungent gas.

In Causeway Bay, several foreign ladies fled in terror from the police tear gas attack. They ran to a convenience store and attempted to hide inside the fridge. Tear gas went into the store, frightening them even more.

It used to be a joke that #HongKongProtest frontlines are like a war zone. The confirmation of this joke now comes in the form of a prize. Thank you journalists for showing the world the truth about #HongKong through such beautiful but heartbreaking photos. Even in the darkest times, there's hope, if we just remember to turn on the (neon) light. Please fight on with us.

Congratulations Kiran Ridley on winning the International Photography Awards with his photo series of #HongKongProtests last year. His photos documented how the government, turning a deaf ear to #FiveDemands, changed the demonstrations to peaceful protests to events filled with molotov cocktails.

#HongKongers, never forget what happened, never forget what's still happening. Never what we have been through, and what we want to achieve.

Apparently, this is because #CCP still doesn't believe that #HongKongProtest was leaderless. They still think that #HongKong people are used and played by some foreign powers, or a "tiny group of local radicals". Is it really so unfathomable that we have minds of our own?

Dear friends! We've decided to launch a new series called "letters from prison". As you know, #HongKong has probably got more activists in prison than at liberty. It may seem like there are very little we can do for them at times, but what we do know is that they are still trying to communicate with the outside world and will not be forgotten! This is why we dedicate our new series to translating their letters to you.
-
These letters will be taken from their social media pages, we urge you to follow them as well and write to them. We'd also like to say that there are A LOT of #HongKongers imprisoned who are not famous at all, but they mustn't be forgotten either. Please do write to them as well to let them know that they are not alone.
-
This is a brand news series, if you have any idea how we can improve on this, your comments are more than welcome!

It's been two years. On June 12, 2019, the police used excessive force against totally peaceful protesters and #CCP's puppet government in #HongKong slapped us in the face by sending a clear message that our voices meant nothing in our own home. It is our responsibility to make sure the truth is recorded in history. The memory and shock we felt two years ago is still as fresh today, and we will never forget, never forgive.

This is the first year since the handover of #HongKong's sovereignty without an annual July 1st protest march, we have prepared a summary of important 71 protests over the years. It is also a history of the decline of Hong Kong's #freedomofexpression.

It's very hard to write a caption for such a traumatic episode of the #HongKong protests, which aftermath continues to be felt today. Only a few years ago, it was impossible to imagine anything so much as violent conflicts happening in a protest in #HK, after all, our protests were known to the world to be peaceful and extremely orderly. But #PolyU, a university in the heart of the city, was literally turned into a warzone, by the unscrupulous #CCP.

We will never forget our history, and history will prove us all innocent.

Two years ago today, the Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) laid siege to Hong Kong Polytechnic University (Poly U) for 13 days.

Post by IG @students4hk
PDF for download: linktr.ee/Students4HK

The police trapped students inside and arrested anyone who tried to leave or enter including first-aiders, volunteers, and reporters.

HKPF claimed that protesters were hiding in disguise.

They shot:
1,458 tear gas canisters
1,391 rubber bullets
325 bean bag rounds
256 sponge grenades
in one day.

1,100 people were arrested through the 2 weeks.

Universities are for education and growth, not war.

The government failed us. The police never meant to protect us. The PolyU siege is a prominent example of HKPF's horrific abuse of power and the need for all of us to stand in solidarity with our peers.

This fight is for every Hongkonger and student. 💛
