However, we must also take notice that the Netherlands remains the only European country so far with a parliament that voted to formally recognize #CCP's action as genocide. Do keep up, Europe! TLDR: Because of #TiananmenMassacre, #HongKong has never fully trusted #CCP, fearing that the promise of #democracy will never be realized and our way of life and #freedom will be crushed in the most brutal way. The violent crackdown of 2019's democratic movement and the arbitrary imposition of #nationalsecuritylaw are pretty much our worst nightmare come true.

While an older generation of #HongKongers commemorated #Tiananmen because they felt that those in #Beijing were kin, a young generation of #HKers, many born after 1989, have different reasons to remember the massacre. Instead of feeling bonded by blood to the #Chinese protesters, many "pass down the torch" of June 4th because they believe that history must be preserved, and they recognized that protesters on Tiananmen Square were fighting against the same oppressor, for the same goals - democracy.
