#MartinLee belongs to the older generation of democracy fighters of #HongKong. For 20 years he has been laboriously struggling for what he believes in in a peaceful way, facing one of the most ruthless tyrants of today. He deserves the #Nobel Peace Prize. Below is what he said when he was eventually arrested for his beliefs in the summer of 2020:
-
"I feel relieved... After months of witnessing youths being arrested and prosecuted while I stayed out of it, I actually felt guilty. I have been eventually prosecuted and have no regrets. I feel proud to walk the road of democracy with these outstanding youths in Hong Kong."

The first time since #Tiananmen Massacre in 1989, #EU is set to sanction human rights abusers in #China! Senior #EU officials will start the sanctions which include travel ban and freezing of assets of officials responsible for the human rights atrocities against Uyghurs in #Xinjiang or #East Turkestan. These sanctions will need formal sign-off, we're banking on it to happen. However, we must also take notice that the Netherlands remains the only European country so far with a parliament that voted to formally recognize #CCP's action as genocide. Do keep up, Europe! At the same time, we urge #Canada, whose parliament has declared CCP's action as genocide to sanction #Chinese officials responsible for the torture, rape and murder of thousands of ethnic minorities!

#HongKong M+ museum's works are slammed by pro-#CCP politicians for "inciting hatred", the museum has confirmed that #AiWeiwei's photograph of him raising a middle finger at #Tiananmen Square will not be on view when the museum finally opens its doors to public. With pleasing #Beijing the city's priority over everything else now, it'd be a wonder if #HK can stay on as Asia's art hub.

#UliSigg, the #Swiss collector who donated over 1,500 pieces to the museum broke his silence on these "politicians'" attacks. Art reflects reality, it may make us feel uncomfortable, but it reflects the truth. Why is the HK and #Chinese government so anxious to censor the truth?

[...] sterilization and abortion in #Xinjiang. It's even trying to export the "#Chinese model". So no, democratization does not follow economic prosperity in this case. The question is, will the rest of the world stop harbouring this illusion now or wait until we are infiltrated and ruled by a tyrant?

TLDR: Because of #TiananmenMassacre, #HongKong has never fully trusted #CCP, fearing that the promise of #democracy will never be realized and our way of life and #freedom will be crushed in the most brutal way. The violent crackdown of 2019's democratic movement and the arbitrary imposition of #nationalsecuritylaw are pretty much our worst nightmare come true.
-
While an older generation of #HongKongers commemorated #Tiananmen because they felt that those in #Beijing were kin, a young generation of #HKers, many born after 1989, have different reasons to remember the massacre. Instead of feeling bonded by blood to the #Chinese protesters, many "pass down the torch" of June 4th because they believe that history must be preserved, and they recognized that protesters on Tiananmen Square were fighting against the same oppressor, for the same goals - democracy.

To nobody's surprise, #HK's dim-witted puppet government is banning this year's vigil. If the #Chinese government means business about getting [...]
