One Year Since the Passing of Pro-democracy Student Alex Chow

On November 4, 2019 in Tseung Kwang O, Alex Chow Tsz-lok, a 22-year-old pro-democracy university student, fell from the third floor of Sheung Tak Carpark during a police operation.

On November 8, 2019, Chow passed away in a hospital at 8:09am. The cause of Chow's fatal fall remains unknown.

The coroner's court is scheduled to be held for 5 weeks, beginning on November 16, 2020. The court is expected to summon 60 witnesses (including 20 police officers, firemen, paramedics, voluntary first aiders and medical doctors) and analysts.

Since the passing of Chow, Hongkongers mourned Chow on the 8th day of every month across Hong Kong, despite police intervention. Today, on the one-year mark of Chow's death, netizens called for a memorial at Tseung Kwang O at 1930.

Armed police officers have been deployed in the area.

HK Authorities Purportedly Limit Internet Access Through Nation Security Law

The website “Hong Kong Chronicles” released a statement on 7 Jan, 2021, reporting that some netizens in Hong Kong failed to access their website when using internet services providers (ISP) including SmarTone, China Mobile, HKBN and PCCW since 6 Jan, 2021.

It was suspected that these ISPs had blocked the website on the authorities’ request.

The Hong Kong Police said they would not comment on an individual case, but they would act in accordance with the #NationalSecurityLaw. It was understood that the National Security Department of the Hong Kong Police Force for the first time invoked the Cap. 43 of the national security law.
