"Run Our City" Runners Raised Their Hands Symbolizing “Five Demands, Not One Less”

In today’s Streetathon “Run Our City”, many runners raised 5 fingers on one hand and 1 finger on another hand, symbolising “Five Demands, Not One Less” when they ran through the finishing line.

The 10km-race winner, aged 17, expressed her concern over situation in Hong Kong, as well as her wish seeing justice and love to be restored.

Another runner named himself as “Mr. Lennon”, who decorated his running suit with Post-it notes. He also prepared pens for other participants to write their wishes.

Banners And Splendor

Many have already arrived at the pre-march assembly held by Hong Kong Civil Assembly Team (HKCAT). Quite a few brought along the national flags of the US and Japan and were handing out leaflets. Hong Kong independent supporters also waved their own flags and chanted slogans to express their wish.

Ventus Lau and Evander, representatives of the Hong Kong Civil Assembly Team, read the Declaration of the Assembly.

Summary of the Declaration:

1) Retribution against the Govt

For the past 7 months, Hongkongers went to great lengths and undertook a series of measures to protect Hong Kong, from peaceful demonstrations to armed struggle, from fortifying local barricades to establishing international connections. “The government will receive the retribution they deserve, for all the blood and tears that Hongkongers have shed over the city,” they stressed.

2) Efforts from the International Community

The Five demands have yet to be fulfilled, but Hongkongers made steady progress in gaining international attention. After the US Congress passed the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act by an overwhelming majority, many countries of the free world also joined in the effort by enacting or preparing to enact sanctions against the repressive regime of the CPC. “The clock is ticking. Their time is running out,” as they proclaimed.

3) Persistence
They reminded participants of the importance of persistence. “In the coming year, Hongkongers must continue to speak out to the world and to demonstrate to the world that the battle against authoritarianism has not and would never have ended.”

4) Call for actions home and abroad

The organizer appealed to the participants, explaining the weightage of the #Jan19 ‘Universal Siege on Communists’ March.” The Hong Kong Legislative Council Election will take place this year. They call on the international community to monitor the election. “Once again Hong Kong is placed under the spotlight on the international stage,” They stressed, “if universal suffrage is absent; if the unjust functional constituencies still exist; if candidates are still disqualified arbitrarily, international sanctions must be launched.”

5) Demands for political reform

Immediate political reform is within the power of the Hong Kong Communist regime. The local Government should at once announce the resumption of political reforms and consult the public on election plans for the LegCo. “The world watches and awaits to see if the Communist regime’s constitutional promise to actualise democracy in Hong Kong was another lie.” “The people of Hong Kong will do anything in their disposal to punish those in power, and to make sure these sanctions be implemented in the fastest and most severe manner possible.”

6) Conclusion

“I believe in the power of the Karma: Our deeds and intents will eventually repay us, whether it be good or bad. All the injustice shall fall by their punishment coming. And for everyone, like you and me here, who loves Hong Kong from the deepest of hearts, we shall see victory.”
