District Councilor: Police are Abusing Anti-Crowding Laws to Arrest Citizens and Impose Political Pressure

District Councilor Chan Po-ming states that he went to the vigil alone and did not know nearby citizens. However, while being searched by the police, he was asked if he was gathering with four other nearby citizens. He noted that these types of events kept happening, and it is unacceptable that the anti-epidemic policy is being used as a political pressure tool.

Hong Kong Authorities Enforce Anti-Epidemic Measures in Double Standard According to the Business' Political Stance
Since the Hong Kong government has imposed the Prevention and Control of Disease Regulations, the police take part in enforcing the new law. Under the new ordinance, tables in restaurant should be placed 1.5 meter apart.
In addition to using the anti-epidemic measures to suppress pro-democracy activities, the police reportedly employed differential treatment to eateries according to their stance.
The photo shows how the policr checked distances between tables differently in pro-establishment "blue" restaurant and pro-democracy "yellow" restaurant. It was found that the police included the radii of the table into 1.5m measurement for pro-government business.
Many questioned over the fairness and effectiveness of the rules.
