Assembly Marking Six Months After the Yuen Long 7.21 Attack

An assembly was held in Tin Shui Wai to commemorate the Triad attack on civilians on 21 July that took place in Yuen Long six months ago. The assembly has obtained a letter of no objection from the police.

Pro-democracy legislative councilors and district councilors took turn to speak. In particular, lawmaker Roy Kwong encouraged young people not to forget the original cause of the movement.

A band formed by residents in the area played music to root for Hongkongers.

Young man arrested for possessing a spray glue – the case is absurd, said District Councillor

January 21 marks the 6th month of the mob-attack incident in Yuen Long West Rail Station, which took place on July 21, 2019. Around 8pm in the evening of January 20, a group of civilians gathered outside the Yuen Long station, some were putting up bulletins on walls.

Around 40 riot police arrived at the scene, and intercepted youngsters. One young man wearing face mask was arrested allegedly for possession of tools that could be used for illegal purposes, as a can of spray glue was found in his possession.

Zachary Wong, Yuen Long District Councillor raised concern over the incident which he considered absurd.

Security scanners across Europe tied to China govt, military


//At some of the world’s most sensitive spots, authorities have installed security screening devices made by a single Chinese company with deep ties to China’s military and the highest levels of the ruling Communist Party.

The World Economic Forum in Davos. Europe’s largest ports. Airports from Amsterdam to Athens. NATO’s borders with Russia. All depend on equipment manufactured by Nuctech, which has quickly become the world’s leading company, by revenue, for cargo and vehicle scanners.

Nuctech’s critics allege the Chinese government has effectively subsidized the company so it can undercut competitors and give Beijing potential sway over critical infrastructure in the West as China seeks to establish itself as a global technology superpower.

“The data being processed by these devices is very sensitive. It’s personal data, military data, cargo data. It might be trade secrets at stake. You want to make sure it’s in right hands,” said Bart Groothuis, director of cybersecurity at the Dutch Ministry of Defense before becoming a member of the European Parliament. “You’re dependent on a foreign actor which is a geopolitical adversary and strategic rival.”//
