Hong Kong Government Official posts national security law promotional video on 31st anniversary of the June Fourth Massacre

On June 4, Secretary for Civil Service Nip Tak-kuen posted on Facebook a video promoting the national security law. He wrote, “Families come after nations. Protecting our country is our responsibility.”

NPC representative Ip Kwok-him suggested earlier that once the national security law is implemented in Hong Kong, the slogan “end one-party dictatorship” may be illegal.

This year’s June Fourth Vigil was banned by the police, and it was uncertain whether the vigil can be held next year after the implementation of the national security law.

#Hongkongers Defy Police Blockade and Pay Tribute to Victims of 1989 June 4 #TiananmenMassacre

At 12:30am on June 5, 2022, Victoria Park was re-opened after being sealed off since 11pm on June 3.

Tens of Hongkongers entered the park to commemorate the victims of the 1989 June 4 Tiananmrn Square Massacre.

An annual vigil had been held in Hong Kong in Victoria Park until 2020. The police blocked the park for three consecutive years.

After midnight on June 5, 2022, some civilians sat in the football pitch, participating in a non-existent vigil; some lighted up the way with their phone; some displayed a tee shirt that read "students are not rioters" on the ground; some brought with them the miniature of the Statue of the Goddess of Democracy, e-candles, flowers and handbills.

When the police tried to enter the park again, the civilians have already left.
