Australia Universities are “Addicted” to the Income of Chinese Students, Feared to Fall Out of the World's Top 100 Rankings Due to China's Ban

Many Chinese students study aboard in Australia every year, bringing massive benefits to Australian universities. Some universities principals describe that the industry has already “addicted” to the Chinese market. As China-Australia relations deteriorated, China publicly called for not to study in Australia. Some analysis believes that this action massively reduces the universities research expenditures due to the drastic reduction in income. And eventually, it leads to domestic universities falling out of the top 100 in the world.

“Addicted” in relying on the Chinese market
From the start of last year, China-Australia relations become more worsen, Australian President Scott Morrison publicly called out for having an independent investigation into the origin of COVID-19. However, the Beijing government regards this action as a move against China. Afterwards, China launches a trade war against Australia, imposing import bans or tariffs to Australian products such as beef, red wine, coal and lobsters. Chinese Education Department called out to students not to study in Australia, and Australia banned international students from entry due to the pandemic.

Chinese international students contributed around AUD 7 billion (HKD 41.8 billion) to Australian universities each year. Greg Craven, Principal of Australian Catholic University, said the industry is over-relied on the Chinese market, it even brought sovereign risks to Australia. He said helplessly, “They (principals from other universities) all knew about the issues of China, and I have also mentioned in the expert group or publicly, but they chose to remain silent, which is like being addicted to drugs.”

Children born in #China are robbed of their independent minds, if they're lucky enough they may learn a thing or two about #CCP's nastiness and stay quiet despite knowledge of the truth. Now #Beijing is trying to impose the same brainwashing education policy on #HongKong.

March 10 is #Tibetan Uprising Day! In support of our Tibetan friends, we'd like to draw your attention to #CCP's oppressive language policies are not unfamiliar to #HongKong at all, and it's happening in more places than you thought! #Chinese government's bilingual policy in #Tibet does not come from an educational imperative but a political one, wanting to uproot Tibetan culture. Erasure of language is a dangerous sign of genocide.

Chinese Congress Delegate Suggests Cancelling English Classes in Mainland Schools

The 4th session of the 13th Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (#CPPCC) opens in Beijing. Before the opening, many delegates spoke to mainland press about potential topics to be discussed. Among them is Xu Jin, Central Committee Member of the elite-ran Jiusan Society, who propose to remove English as a core subject for Chinese students.

“Students and parents have spent much time and effort in order to learn English. However, as our society and economy becomes more developed, does English really matter that much?” he said.

According to his research, he said, computer tools can provide translations for multiple languages, and is already sufficient for everyday usage. He believes with such translation tools that “match university standards,” translation will be one of the first occupations to die out in the age of artificial intelligence.

Orbán to Borrow from China for Fudan University’s €1.5B Budapest Campus, Which Costs More Than to Run Hungary's Entire Higher Education System for a Year

A report published by the Hungarian investigative journalism centre Direkt36 on 6 April says Fudan University’s new Budapest Campus, the first European campus of the Chinese university, will cost a whopping 1.5 billion euros (around 13.9 billion HK dollars)—more than what the eastern European country spent on its entire higher education system in 2019. The project will depend mainly on Chinese loans. The report further reveals that the Hungarian Ministry of Innovation and Technology, which will supervise the project, has recommended the China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) to be the builder with the firm indicating that a certain amount of Chinese material and labour will be employed.

The non-profit Direkt36 has gained access to a series of documents about the new campus, including a draft proposal by László Palkovics, Hungary’s innovation and technology minister. According to the proposal, the government estimates the cost to be 1.5 billion euros without taking into account the infrastructure costs and other expenses. This exceeds its entire expenditure on the country’s higher education system in 2019, which clocked in at 1.3 billion euros (around 12 billion HK dollars). It is further stated in the proposal that part of the cost will be covered directly by Hungary with the rest covered by loans from China. The China Development Bank will provide a loan of 1.3 billion euros on preferential terms.

According to Direkt36, the CSCEC made a bid of under one billion euros (around 9.23 billion HK dollars) and secured the innovation and technology ministry’s recommendation. The report says the CSCEC made it clear in its tender that a certain number of Chinese workers will take part in the project and building material will be imported from China. The report says further that the Hungarian government has decided that China shall be the sole constructor with a commissioner appointed by the innovation and technology ministry supervising the project.

They want a brainwashing #education to produce robots that only say yes to the Party. #Books with "western ideas" or "about religions" are banned, and we have come up with a list of books that are probably forbidden to #students......

British publishers censor books for western readers to appease China

References to Taiwan and Hong Kong were reportedly deleted from works for Western readers, so that they can also be sold in China.

London-listed #Quarto, as well as #OctopusBooks, part of the literary empire #Hachette, have allowed the removal of sensitive content from books to be sold in the West on several occasions.

It is claimed the nationality of people mentioned in one book was also changed from Taiwanese to East Asian, while references to Tibet, a region annexed by China in 1951, were revised in two books to suggest it was Chinese territory.

Since 2020, Octopus has also reportedly removed references in at least two books to Taiwan, a democracy that the Chinese Communist Party claims as its own territory despite never having ruled there.
