Ex-Canada Space Agency engineer charged for allegedly working with Chinese firm

The RCMP has charged a former member of the Canada Space Agency (CSA) for allegedly working on behalf of a Chinese aerospace company.

Former CSA engineer Wanping Zheng, 61, was charged with breach of trust by a public officer on Tuesday after an RCMP investigation, the CSA said in a statement Wednesday. He is a resident of Brossard, Que., a suburb of Montreal.

“According to the facts, Mr. Zheng allegedly used his status as a CSA engineer to negotiate agreements for the installation of satellite station facilities in Iceland,” the RCMP said in a statement.

Conservative leadership contender Patrick Brown wins support of Beijing-allied groups, senator

After their party lost another federal election last year, the Chinese Canadian Conservative Association (CCCA) made some striking comments about the Tory platform — and Canada’s relations with Beijing.

Spokesman Joe Li said the Conservative push for a tougher stance on China had alienated voters of Chinese descent and cost the party three ridings.

Why are Chinese police operating in Canada, while our own government and security services apparently look the other way?

In China, the high-profile TV drama In The Name Of The People has become a smash hit. In that show, Chinese agents enter the U.S. posing as businessmen so they can repatriate a factory manager who had fled abroad with huge ill-gotten wealth.

But a new study by the European non-governmental agency Safeguard Defenders suggests that there might be some truth to the fiction. According to the NGO, the Fuzhou Public Security Bureau has established more than 50 “overseas police service centres” in cities around the world – including three publicly documented ones in Toronto, home to Canada’s largest Chinese diaspora.

Size of alleged Chinese interference in Canada ‘astonishing’: experts

Shocking reports of alleged Chinese interference in Canada’s 2019 elections, first reported by Global News, have raised questions about whether Ottawa is doing enough to deal with the national security threat. ‘The West Block’ host Mercedes Stephenson speaks with national security expert Akshay Singh, former Canadian ambassador to China David Mulroney, and Global News investigative reporter Sam Cooper about the bombshell revelations and the Liberal government’s underwhelming response.

🇨🇳🇨🇦 China snubs Canada as it lifts travel bans

China
– a major source of outbound tourists – has left Canada off a list of countries now approved for travel by tour groups, its embassy in Ottawa said.

Last week Beijing lifted a Covid-era ban on group tours to dozens of countries including the United States, Germany, Japan and Australia, but not Canada.

The Chinese embassy in Ottawa said in a statement that the reason behind the snub was “the Canadian side has repeatedly hyped up the so-called ‘Chinese interference’.” China-Canada relations hit a new low this year amid accusations of Chinese meddling in Canadian elections and the attempted intimidation of MPs that led to the expulsion of a Chinese diplomat in May.

#Hongkongers in #Canada are now proposing a Foreign Influence Transparency Registry to fight against #CCP influence in Canada. After Chinese Secret Plice Stations are exposed by the Candian Security Intelligent Service (CSIS), a lot of Canadians are concerned about the influence China has in Canada. Setting up a comprehensive system of Foreign Influence Transparency Registry is one of the most effective ways to safeguard the Canadian democratic system.

If the registration is passed, Foreign agents will need to list out their activities in the country. Hence, becoming more transparent about Foreign influences on policies within the country other than its own democratic system.

Anyone in Canada who successfully applied for Permanent Residence can sign this petition.
