Nightmare marathon: 20 dead after extremely bad weather upends 100-km cross-country race in China
It was about 1 p.m. Saturday when what was intended to become a 100-km (62-mile) cross-country ultra-marathon went awry, Xinhua reported. The participants that reached a stage between 20 to 31 kilometers were subjected to a freezing rain shower, hail and extremely strong gusts of wind. The sudden change in weather conditions has reportedly resulted in hypothermia in several participants of the 172-member ultramarathon. The event was ultimately suspended after the organizers lost contact with several members of the daredevil race.

Intel:Wuhan lab researchers hospitalized in 2019 with 'flu-like symptoms - report
The Chinese lab at the center of alleged theories regarding the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, reportedly had three researchers who had to go to hospital after falling ill in NOVEMBER 2019 - according to The Wall Street Journal.
Citing current and former US officials, via international partners, it's claimed the staffers from the Wuhan Institute of Virology fell ill with symptoms “consistent with both Covid-19 and common seasonal illness."
Many experts state the origin of the Covid outbreak did not come from the Wuhan lab.

Dead runner's daughter vents anger at race organisers
A mainland woman has demanded answers from the organisers of an ill-fated ultramarathon as to why they took so long to tell her what had happened to her father – one of 21 competitors who died after extremely cold weather struck the race.Hail, freezing rain and high winds have been blamed for the deaths of the runners taking part in a 100-kilometre cross-country mountain race on Saturday in Gansu province. As authorities launch an investigation, mainland social media have erupted in mourning and outrage, questioning why organisers had not been better prepared for the extreme weather.Writing on Weibo, a woman said that in the early hours of Sunday, she was informed by the race organisers that her father was missing. But she later spotted him in a video circulating on social media. The footage, which appeared to have been taken in the daytime, showed him with blue hands and foaming at the mouth. The woman said it wasn't until later on Sunday that the authorities confirmed her father had been found, and that he had died. She said she had demanded to know why there had been insufficient supply stations and manpower along the route.State broadcaster CCTV said in an online commentary on Sunday that the Gansu tragedy was "a wake-up call for marathon events that have bloomed almost everywhere in China in recent years"."Route planning, safety guarantees, medical preparations, emergency rescue, food supplies, etc., need to be precise and foolproof," said CCTV, also warning runners to "respect nature, respect science, cherish life". U.S. Urges ‘Decisive’ Steps by China to Shift Away From Exports
The U.S. said China continues to focus its policies on exports, and called on its biggest economic rival to implement forceful measures to boost domestic demand.
“China’s recovery has been highly imbalanced” since the hit from the coronavirus pandemic, the U.S. Treasury Department said in its semiannual foreign-exchange report. “Stringent containment measures enabled China to quickly resume manufacturing while domestic consumption lagged.”

China rejects claim of illness at Wuhan lab in 2019
China on Monday dismissed as "totally untrue" reports that three researchers in Wuhan went to hospital with an illness shortly before the coronavirus emerged in the city and spread around the globe.Since infecting its first victims in the central Chinese city in late 2019, the pathogen has afflicted almost every country in the world, killing more than 3.4 million people and pummelling national economies.Beijing has always fiercely fought the theory that it could have escaped from one of its laboratories.Citing a US intelligence report, the Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday that the trio from the Wuhan Institute of Virology were affected as early as November 2019, suffering from "symptoms consistent with both Covid-19 and common seasonal illness".China disclosed the existence of an outbreak of pneumonia cases in Wuhan to the World Health Organisation (WHO) on December 31, 2019.Asked about the reports on Monday, Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian described them as "totally untrue".He told reporters that, according to a statement from the institute, it "had not been exposed to Covid-19 before December 30, 2019, and a 'zero-infection' record is kept among its staff and graduate students so far".The coronavirus was, however, taken to the lab for study, according to Chinese authorities. The theory that the killer virus leaked from a Chinese lab was fuelled by, among others, the administration of former US president Donald Trump. But in March, after a four-week stay in Wuhan, a joint study by the WHO and Chinese experts deemed such an explanation "extremely unlikely".Experts favour the generally accepted theory of the natural transmission of the virus from an animal - probably a bat - to humans, through another animal that has not yet been identified. Some believe, however, that WHO specialists did not have enough space to work freely during their investigation in Wuhan.
