US says mainland military exercises 'destabilising'

The Pentagon said on Thursday it was "concerned" about Chinese military exercises around a disputed archipelago in the South China Sea, saying the manoeuvres will "further destabilize" the region."The Department of Defense is concerned about the People's Republic of China (PRC) decision to conduct military exercises around the Paracel Islands in the South China Sea on July 1-5," the Pentagon said in a statement. The activities "further destabilize the situation" in the area claimed by China, Vietnam and Taiwan, it said.Such exercises also violate Beijing's "commitments under the 2002 Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea to avoid activities that would complicate or escalate disputes and affect peace and stability."The declaration, signed by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) countries, said that all parties would "avoid activities that would complicate or escalate disputes and affect peace and stability."The exercises "are the latest in a long string" of Chinese actions "to assert unlawful maritime claims and disadvantage its Southeast Asian neighbors in the South China Sea."The Pentagon urged "all parties to exercise restraint and not undertake military activities that might aggravate disputes" in the region, and said it will continue to monitor Chinese military activity. The Chinese exercises are taking place amid a rise in US-China tensions over the novel coronavirus epidemic, in which Washington has accused Beijing of hiding and downplaying the initial outbreak in the city of Wuhan.Washington rejects Beijing's territorial claim to much of the South China Sea, including the Paracels. The region is believed to have valuable oil and gas deposits. It makes sense why developing countries who rely on China, support them.

Communists share their ideology, so that makes sense too.

But Muslim countries backing China? It's as if they don't care about the 2M Uyghurs currently in concentration camps!

Canadians interrogated in China are the “ bargaining chips” used by China for the latest hostage diplomacy deal to free Ms Meng Wanzhou

After the 18th month of their detention, two Canadians, Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor, were accused of espionage by China. Kovrig, a former diplomat, and Spavor, a businessman, were arrested in 2018 shortly after Meng Wanzhou – an executive of China’s state controlled giant Huawei – was detained under US request. The two men have not been able to meet with their lawyer or their families since their arbitrary detention. Instead, they were allegedly exposed to interrogation for six to eight hours a day and exposed to 24-hour artificial lighting.

In comparison, Ms. Meng, according to herself, finally had time to read a book and carefully finish an oil painting. To make things worse, China’s state-controlled court system has an almost 100% conviction rate.

Meanwhile, China constantly implies the fate of the two Canadians are linked to the outcome of Meng’s case. A Chinese journalist even claimed that Canada failed to realize Meng was worth 10 – if not more – Kovrig & Spavor, further exposing the nature of this hostage diplomacy. Behind it is the Han chauvinism and ultranationalism cultivated by the Chinese Communist Party over the years.

The ideology is deeply rooted in imperial China’s world view in which it sees itself the centre of the world for the rest to #kowtow to, sees its renewal as China become increasingly convinced of its uprising power.

Modi makes surprise China border visit after clash

Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a surprise visit to India's northern frontier region with China on Friday in his first trip to the area since a deadly border clash last month. The incident in the Galwan Valley saw 20 Indian troops killed and was the first time in 45 years that soldiers had died in combat on the Asian giants' long-disputed Himalayan border.Modi toured a military base at Nimoo in Ladakh, about 100 kilometres (60 miles) as the crow flies from the site of the June 15 battle. He was due to go to a military hospital in nearby Leh to meet soldiers injured in the hand-to-hand skirmish. The head of India's military and the army chief also joined the visit to the sensitive area, which has been used as a staging post to build up troop numbers in the region.China also suffered casualties but has not given details. Both sides have blamed each other for the incident and since sent thousands of extra troops to the region. They have held several rounds of military-level talks and said they want a negotiated settlement but have made little apparent progress.India has also attempted to turn the screws on China economically, this week banning 59 Chinese mobile phone apps including the popular TikTok citing national security concerns. With anti-China sentiment on the rise locally, Chinese imports including raw materials vital to India's pharmaceutical industry have reportedly been piling up at Indian ports due to more stringent border checks. A confirmed video game content rating system according to China State Media: No violent or bloody elements in the 18+ games

After extensive consultation with experts, industry representatives, players and parents, China state media People’s Daily Online has drafted the “Age-appropriate gaming guidance” bill.

According to the current laws and regulations in China and the physiological development, cognitive ability and level of moral development in young people, the age range for games is divided into the following four categories: ‘Above 18 years old (18+)’, ‘Above 16 years old (16+)’, ‘Above 12 years old (12+)’ and ‘Above 6 years old (6+)’. As children under the age of 6 are at the crucial stage of their visual and other developments, their individual usage of electronic devices for gaming is not recommended.

As indicated in the screenshots, the 18+ category must be free from elements of violence, sexual innuendo, gore, horror, bad language, etc.

Meanwhile, the People’s Daily Online stated that the various metrics of the draft are not rigid, and they will be updated in a timely manner based on the game's operation and feedback from the community.

People’s Daily Online will also set up an online platform to showcase enterprises participating in ‘age-appropriate tips for games’, the status of games marked with ‘age-appropriate tips’, as well as the opinions of experts on games marked with ‘age-appropriate tips’ and the latest changes to the ‘age-appropriate tips’ content.
