The Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro Continued to Criticize China's Vaccine with Low Effectiveness
The Sao Paulo State in Brazil planned to use the Wuhan Virus vaccine developed by Sinovac from China. But President Jair Bolsonaro continued to judge this vaccine, saying that its effectiveness was seemingly low.
Bolsonaro made a Christmas speech on the internet on Thursday saying "The effectiveness of the vaccine which used by Sao Paulo State is relatively low”. But he did not make further explanations. He also indicated earlier that he would not inject this vaccine.

Brazil to Look into Banning Companies that Use 5G Equipment from Huawei
In support of the US’s Clean Network Program, Brazil was looking into legal procedures to restrict national telecommunication companies from using 5G network equipment developed by Huawei. Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro’s national security advisor was looking into whether or not the government should ban Huawei with a presidential decree. However, as many major telecommunication companies have partnered with Huawei for years, the move was expected to be met with strong opposition.
A report stated that the Secretary of Institutional Security Augusto Heleno was in discussions with the Ministry of Communications to set up security provisions that telecommunication companies and equipment suppliers must comply to. They were also studying into the feasibility of a presidential decree. The US has criticised Huawei for its ties with China’s People’s Liberation Army and has expressed concerns over the leaking of confidential information to the Chinese government, which presents threats to national security.
As China has been Brazil’s most important trade partner, the ban on Huawei was expected to be met with strong oppositions from the industry and even from within the government, including the Brazilian Vice President Hamilton Mourao. The Brazilian Minister for Communications Fabio Faria refused to comment on the report, while Heleno has said that he was not involved in affairs pertaining to 5G.

ANVISA, a Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency, expressed their concerns over the COVID-19 vaccines on Monday as the Chinese public health departments approved the vaccine for emergency use without adequate transparency of the policy standards.
Jair Bolsonaro, the President of Brazil, has always criticised the Chinese vaccine that the “origin” of vaccine is not trustworthy. However, his political opponent, Sao Paulo Governor João Doria, who is regarded as the most capable of challenging the presidency in the 2022 presidential election, his state's research institute, is currently developing the vaccine CoronaVac with Sinovac. Doria even mentioned that they expect to distribute the vaccines to the local residents in January 2021.
