Ex-CEO of Google Warned: China's Control of AI will Harm the World
(North American News) The ex-CEO of Google, Eric Schmidt, warned that the Chinese dictatorship would promote artificial intelligence (AI) development beyond the U.S. Once China controls the global AI technology, it would be a disaster to the world. Besides, he urged the U.S. government to catch up on the pace, doubling the funds on technology development in the next five years.
Schmidt, the Chairman of the Defense Innovation Advisory Board under the U.S. Department of Defense, participated in a seminar on AI technology at Bipartisan Policy Center on Tuesday. He said there is an advantage for the Chinese government as they are huge, single-minded, and adopt a top-down model, which the U.S. government is hard to duplicate. "I am not praising nor supporting them, but I urge you to take this issue seriously."
Schmidt described that the "high-tech authoritarianism" model motivated China to exceed the U.S. in all aspects. "They will have a larger economy, more funding on development, higher quality of investigations, broader technology applications, and a stronger computer infrastructure." He emphasised that once China controls AI technologies of the world, it “might not be a very pretty place to live.”

Huawei patent mentions AI technology for identifying Uyghurs
BBC quoted IPVM, a U.S. video-surveillance research group, showing that a patent filed by Chinese leading telecom giant Huawei in 2018 mentioned an artificial intelligence system that can identify Uyghurs.
There are growing evidences in recent years that the Chinese government has been using technology to infringe human right of Uyghurs in Xinjiang, and Huawei, the leading Chinese technology company, has been accused of being involved in related human rights violation. According to IPVM, the patent was jointly authored by Huawei and the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in July 2018.
Street CCTV can be used to identify races
The patent describes ways to use deep learning technology to identify the body posture characteristics of pedestrians in the street surveillance system. It also suggests that the technology can be used to identify different attributes of the target person, including races.

And if you’re on twitter, you may have seen copy and pasted tweets too.
That’s not all! CIR also found accounts that actually post content that are anti-“the west”.
Let’s hope these spam-ish accounts get removed. Social media platforms aren’t meant for robots.

“We're losing this battle.” The United States is losing the #AI race against communist #China, says Nicolas Chaillan, who recently resigned from his position as the Chief Software Officer for the U.S. Air Force.
U.S. companies still lead in technological advancements, but they are unwilling to share their technology with the Department of Defense. “If we stopped over-classifying information… they might see pretty quickly that [the communist China threat] is going to become a real problem even to their day-to-day lives,” Chaillan says.
If the U.S. doesn’t start catching up now, soon the situation will “pass the point of no return,” Chaillan says, due to the accelerating nature of AI development.
