Mocking Trump's Medical Privilege, Chinese Officials Humiliated Themselves when their Superior Privilege Exposed

U.S. President Trump was hospitalized for the treatment of COVID-19 infection, and the Chinese officials took advantage of the opportunity, viciously attacking Trump. A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Hua Chunying, said that Trump received medical treatment with privilege. The Chinese netizens, however, mocked that the Official-privilege feature is the most common in China, in which senior officials seized 80% of the medical resources in the country when the citizens could only fend for themselves.

After President Trump was admitted to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for treatment, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying posted on Twitter on Sunday (October 4) that "Yesterday, the U.S. reported 47,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 600 deaths. The suffering faced by these patients is heartbreaking. I sincerely hope that all American patients will receive 'first-class' treatment, like the president."

But the post immediately caused bombardment by Chinese netizens. They satirized Chinese officials for occupying medical resources.

Mr. Zhou, a legal profession, said Hua's remarks triggered a backlash from netizens, who were the most upset about the privileges of the Communist Party's bureaucracy. Mr. Zhou pointed out that the privileges of Communist Party officials actually covered all areas, including birth, old age, sickness, and death. Each province had jails just for the officials at the bureau level, and their treatment was far beyond the ordinary jails. Senior officials could even enjoy special care in prison. Including the privilege of medical resources, the feature of privilege began early since CCP's Yan'an times, and the state apparatus maintained the unjust system. The authority could suppress any criticism of this privilege.

Canada Confirmed Detained Citizens Not Been Trial in China, Despite Confusing Message from China's Spokesperson

Canada said it has confirmed with China that the former diplomat Michael Kovrig and businessman Michael Spavor, who had been detained by China for 2 years, have not brought to trial, contrary to statements made by spokesperson of Chinese Foreign Ministry.

During a media briefing on Thursday, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying said the two men had been "arrested, indicted and tried" by Chinese authority. This was the first time China has publicly claimed to have taken the two to court.

Hua did not provide more information during the briefing. The Canadian Department of Global Affairs issued a statement on Thursday, saying that the Canadian Embassy in Beijing had spoken with the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and confirmed that both have not been put on trial. The statement said Chinese officials “confirmed that the confusion was caused by an inaccurate characterisation of the process made by the Chinese MFA spokesperson”

US Sanctions a Chinese Tech Company for Helping Venezuela to Suppress Dissents

The U.S. Treasury Department announced sanctions against on a Chinese technology company on Monday (November 30), accusing the company of helping Venezuelan President Maduro to undermine democracy. On the other side, the Chinese Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said at a regular press conference on Tuesday (December 1) that U.S. action was simply an excuse to suppress the Venezuelan and related Chinese firms.

The Treasury Department has frozen the assets of China National Electronics Import & Export Corporation (CEIEC) in U.S., restricting America companies from conducting business with it, but allows a buffer period for U.S firms and individuals to wind-down pre-existing business with CEIEC until 14 January. The Treasury Department has also frozen assets of any company in which CEIEC holds more than 50% of shares.

A statement from the Treasury Department indicates that CEIEC is a “commercial version of Beijing firewall”, providing specialized technology to block the live streams of independent media and the opposition leader Juan Guaido. The statement also pointed out that CEIEC supports Maduro government in restricting internet services, conducting digital surveillance and cyber operation to target political dissident.

Twitter Bans Trump but Condones China's Propaganda, Netizens Say

Twitter announced on Friday (January 8) that it has permanently blocked Donald Trump's personal account (@realDonaldTrump) with the concerns of the risks of further incitement to violence. The practice has aroused heated debate among netizens, many of whom say that banning speech is a common tactic used by the Chinese Communist Party, criticizing Silicon Valley for turning into the Chinese Communist Party. Twitter has not seen any major action even when Chinese official media and Foreign Ministry spokesperson use the platform to make propaganda or even send out fake news.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying posted a short video about COVID-19 on her Twitter account (@SpokespersonCHN) on Friday (January 8), saying, “A picture is worth a thousand words. Fighting #COVID19, a memory that will not be forgotten.” The video was viewed more than 7,000 times in just two hours, with more than 300 people giving Like and more than 50 comments. Most of the comments praised China for its greatness, happiness for its people and rejuvenation for its nation. Some even thanked China for "leading the world" in the fight against the virus. But Twitter does not put on the fact-check tag in the feed.

Another Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman, Zhao Lijian, became notorious last May when his Twitter account (@zlj517) cited a report from the official media Global Times that the U.S. military brought the COVID-19 into China. Twitter added a fact-check tag to it without deleting the post or the Global Times report. In last December, Zhao further antagonized China-Australia relation by uploading a fake picture of an Australian soldier. But his Twitter account is still up and running.

Twitter Deletes Post by Chinese Embassy Saying Uyghur Women Have Been “Liberated”

A tweet by the Chinese Embassy in US saying Uyghur women had been “liberated” under Beijing’s administration has been taken down by Twitter. Claiming that “progress has been made in terms of gender equality” under Beijing’s Xinjiang policy, the tweet came with an article by the Chinese state media saying that women in the region are no longer birth-giving machines and enjoy greater independence. A day after the tweet was deleted, the embassy shared a post by China’s foreign ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying containing the same article.

The BBC reported that the embassy posted on January 7 a tweet praising Beijing’s Xinjiang policy for “liberating the minds” of Uyghur women and females of other ethnic minorities and bringing the community closer to gender equality. The tweet came with a China Daily article titled “Women Are Having Greater Autonomy Thanks to the Defeat of Extremism, Says Research”, which claims that studies have shown a decrease in birth rate and a slowdown in natural population growth in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region following the elimination of religious extremism. Being no longer discouraged from planned parenthood by religious extremism, the article claims, local women are no longer treated as birth-giving machine and have become more confident and independent. The article takes on Western scholars and politicians that are critical of the changes for being the result of forced sterilization by the state, saying that the accusations are completely false and that family planning policy in the region is completely legal.

The tweet and the article provoked outrage on the Internet, where the Chinese authorities were slammed for lying. Critcs said the tweet proves exactly that Uyghur women have been subjected to forced sterilization. Twitter has since deleted the post, stating that it was against the platform’s rules. No further explanation was given for its move to take down the tweet.

China Misuses Photo of US Prisoners to Attack International #Boycott over #XinjiangCotton

China’s state media and Chinese netizens have been attacking multiple global fashion brands, which have decided to stop buying cotton from Xinjiang after concerns over reportedly forced labour in the industry.

In a press meeting on Mar 25, 2021, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, Hua Chunying, displayed a photo showing what she claimed to be “forced labour in America picking cotton”.

It was later discovered that the workers in the photo, taken at a cotton field in Texas in 1968, were prisoners. The intention of the shot, however, seemed to be more about concerns on the correctional system and racial discrimination in the US than “forced labour” as described by Hua.
