British Foreign Secretary: may Boycott 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic To Raise his Concerns on CCP Suppression to Uyghurs

The Uyghurs human rights matter in Xinjiang, China has attracted international attention. Following the joint statement from 39 countries, including Germany, the US and the UK, calling on China to allow UN observers to investigate in Xinjiang, the British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said on the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament that the UK should take actions to call China for direct facing the problem. He also said he would not rule out the possibility of boycotting the Beijing Winter Olympics in February 2022.

On Tuesday in the local time, the Foreign Affairs Committee of the British Parliament discussed the Uyghurs human rights in China. Raab was asked whether he would take a stand on boycotting the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. He answered that he hoped to separate sports and diplomatic politics, but “may come to a point where that might not be possible”. He would collect evidence and co-orporate with the international society, to think about the further actions in the future.

Raab also said in the meeting that the situation with the Uyghurs was worrying as they were being detained, tortured and forcibly sterilized. Their human rights had been severely violated. The UK needed to take action and demanded China to take responsibility. He hoped to corporate with other countries, or even to send a clear opposition message to China through sanctions.

Dominic Raab calls QC acting for Hong Kong government 'mercenary'

The foreign secretary Dominic Raab said on 17 Jan said that David Perry QC, the barrister acting for the Hong Kong government in its efforts to jail pro-democracy activists, was behaving in “a pretty mercenary way” and providing the Chinese government with a PR coup

Under the Bar code of ethics, Raab believed a case like this could be resisted and frankly. He also mentioned the Chinese treatment of the Uighur people that he did not believe it was right for the British high court to be given a role in determining whether acts of genocide may be under way in China or anywhere else.

We’d like to congratulate #BBC. If #CCP says you’re wrong, you’re most probably right. Like #DominicRaab said, #China’s censorship of BBC only reflect badly on itself. UK-China relationship continues to plummet since #Beijing’s violent crackdown on #HongKong.

Thank you #Britain for formally putting #China's #humanrights abuses on the table. However, judging by #CCP's newest denial camps in #Xinjiang as fabrications, we doubt whether #DominicRaab's call for the UN to send an independent expert for unfettered access to #Xinjiang will come to pass. Mere lipservice is not enough!

When will #Britain (and other Western countries) realize that #CCP is with malicious intent and cannot be brought to reason with conversation?! Just take #HongKong as an example, #USA has talked with #China in Hawaii in 2020, then they imposes the "national security law". #UK itself has verbally condemned #Beijing many times for violating the Sino-British Joint Declaration, it didn't stop them from cancelling elections and throwing democratically elected lawmakers in jail. Fooled me badly once, shame on you. Fooled me badly twice, shame on me. But it seems #DominicRaab would like to go for the third, fourth, fifth times.

British Foreign Secretary: China Breaches the Sino-British Joint Declaration Continuously

On March 13, 2021, British Foreign Secretary #DominicRaab issued another statement, shortly following the first one two days ago on March 11, 2021 in which he slammed Beijing’s decision to impose radical changes to Hong Kong’s electoral system a clear breach of the legally binding Sino-British Joint Declaration.

Raab wrote in the statement that “this is part of a pattern designed to harass and stifle all voices critical of China’s policies and is the third breach of the Joint Declaration in less than nine months.”

He further stated that, “the Chinese authorities’ continued action means I must now report that the UK considers Beijing to be in a state of ongoing non-compliance with the Joint Declaration - a demonstration of the growing gulf between Beijing’s promises and its actions.”

In closing, Raab reiterated UK’s support to Hong Kong, saying that “the UK will continue to stand up for the people of Hong Kong. China must act in accordance with its legal obligations and respect fundamental rights and freedoms in Hong Kong.”

Immediately following the National People's Conference's (#NPC) resolution to impose an electoral overhaul on Hong Kong, Dominic Raab made a statement on March 11, 2021 saying that the latest step by Beijing would “hollow out the space for democratic debate in Hong Kong, contrary to the promises made by China itself.”

Several MPs of UK parliament, however, disparaged the British Government for paying mere lip-service and questioned whether the Government would impose #sanction over concerning officials in Hong Kong based on the Magninisky Human Rights Act.
