US Nominated Trade Representative Will Confront China and Helps the America Workers
The trade policy of the president-elected Biden towards China catches much attention. Katherine Tai, the nominated US trade representative, says that the new government will continue to confront China over its trade practice, as US face stiffening competition from a growing and ambitious China. Tai also states that she will help American workers after taking over the office to ensure they are protected by the trade agreements and enhance US jobs, not just ensure low-price import goods for consumers.
The fiercer competition from China
Tai gave a video speech at the National Foreign Trade Council (NFTC) on Jan 12, which was the first time after Biden's nomination. She mentioned that the US was facing stiffening competition from China, whose economy is directed by central planners who are not subject to the pressures of political pluralism, democratic elections, or popular opinion.
Tai pointed out that whether it is dealing with China or to ensuring the implementation of the United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement (USMCA), American could only win when they were in unity. The new government will collaborate with bipartisan and allies.

🇨🇳🇲🇽 China denies fentanyl trafficking to Mexico
Mexico's president said on Tuesday he had written to Chinese President Xi Jinping, urging him to help control shipments of fentanyl as he fended off criticism in the U.S. that Mexico is not doing enough to stop the trafficking of the synthetic opioid.
🗣 "We come to you, President Xi Jinping, not to ask for your support in the face of these rude threats, but to request that for humanitarian reasons, you help us control shipments of fentanyl that can be sent from China to our country," Obrador said.
Lopez Obrador claims Mexico does not produce fentanyl and that cartels buy it directly from Asia. He said in the letter that only 30% of the drug consumed in the U.S. enters via Mexico.
🗣 "There is no such thing as illegal trafficking of fentanyl between China and Mexico. China has not been notified by Mexico about any seizure of fentanyl from China," China's foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said, responding to a letter from the Mexican president.

#Mexico is now seizing illegal #fentanyl shipped from China. If not stopped, the chemicals could get smuggled across the southern border. The drug has already killed record numbers of Americans. Beijing already stopped cooperating with the United States on combating fentanyl after former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan.
