What touched us was WTA's statement when Peng first disappeared: "In good conscience, I don’t see how I can ask our athletes to compete there when Peng Shuai is not allowed to communicate freely and has seemingly been pressured to contradict her allegation of sexual assault".

The T-shirt ban has been reversed after fierce criticism from human rights groups, the international tennis community, and one of the tennis all-time greats, Navratilova, who criticized the decision as "pathetic".

However, this shows again (and again) how sports event organisers bow to pressure from major Chinese corporate sponsors.

Just glad that Tennis Australia listened this time around.
