China should provide raw data on pandemic's origins - WHO's Tedros
The head of the World Health Organisation said on Thursday that investigations into the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic in China were being hampered by the lack of raw data on the first days of spread there and urged it to be more transparent.
A WHO-led team spent four weeks in and around the central city of Wuhan with Chinese researchers and said in a joint report in March that the virus had probably been transmitted from bats to humans through another animal.
It said that "introduction through a laboratory incident was considered to be an extremely unlikely pathway", but countries including the United States and some scientists were not satisfied.

Lack of COVID-19 Raw Data in China Hinders the Investigation,
Tedros Adhanom: Virus Leakage From a Laboratory Has Not Yet Excluded
The pandemic has spread for over one and a half years. The WHO specialist team published a report in March indicating that the Covid-19 virus was “extremely unlikely” leaked from the laboratory. Tedros Adhanom, Director-General of the WHO, said on 15 July that the lack of raw data of the early epidemic situation in China affected the origin investigation. The claim of the virus outbreak due to the laboratory leak was excluded too early. He pointed out that he was an immunologist, and it is common to have accidents in the laboratory. The investigation of the source of the pandemic is important. In addition to preventing the next pandemic, it is also necessary to be responsible for millions of people who died in the pandemic.
Tedros Adhanom pointed out that the conclusion came too fast after publishing the report in March as China has not provided any original data to the specialist group yet. He then called for a continuous deep investigation. He reiterated a similar point of view at the press conference yesterday and hoped that China would cooperate to provide comprehensive information. It is too early to exclude the probability of the virus leakage from the Wuhan laboratory without sufficient information.

China snubs senior US official in worsening diplomatic stand-off
Beijing has snubbed the US by refusing to grant Wendy Sherman, deputy secretary of state, a meeting with her counterpart during a proposed visit to China that would have been the first top-level engagement since acrimonious talks in Alaska.
The US halted plans for Sherman to travel to Tianjin after China refused to agree to a meeting with Le Yucheng, her counterpart, according to four people familiar with the decision. China offered a meeting with Xie Feng, the number five foreign ministry official who is responsible for US affairs.
The Biden administration had been negotiating what would have been the first high-level engagement since their first meeting in Alaska, which erupted into a public spat between Antony Blinken, US secretary of state, and Yang Jiechi, the top Chinese foreign policy official.

Canadian voters are likely to face foreign cyber interference in the next election, say cyber spies
Canadian voters are likely to face some form of foreign cyber interference ahead and during the next federal election, warns Canada's cyber spy agency, including false information about voter fraud.
However, that meddling is unlikely to match the scale and influence as seen in the U.S., says the Communications Security Establishment (CSE) in a new threat assessment report published Friday.
"We assess that an increasing number of threat actors have the cyber tools, the organizational capacity, and a sufficiently advanced understanding of Canada's political landscape to direct cyber activity against future Canadian federal elections, should they have the strategic intent," reads the report.

“One Belt One Road” from China has become a dead end, the photo of the construction made into ruins exposed, hundreds of billions of debts to other countries
China aims to expand its influence in the world, has announced a project of “One Belt One Road” recently. However, there are more and more argument, including many countries broke into a “debt trap”. Including Montenegro, Sri Lanka, Kazakhstan, Kenya, and other countries, although they once received preferential treatment from China’s “One Belt One Road”, China did half of the construction, but left the construction sites in ruins, and the roads really became “dead roads”.
The Sun from England stated from the report, in countries with weaker economic power such as Asia, Europe, and Africa, China advocates the “One Belt One Road” initiative and makes these countries willing to believe in China, but in the end, it will fall into a debt trap. These countries allow China to carry out construction projects in China, but many projects are only halfway through, resulting in construction sites turned into rubble, and they must make these countries debt with about NT$100 billion.

The “Great Firewall of China” is blocking 311,000 domains, including commercial, pornographic, and news media sites.
A team of academics from US and Canadian universities is investigating the China's Great Firewall with in-house developed system called “GFWatch”, to determine China's internet censorship capabilities.
The research team said that the China's Great Firewall blocks newly registered domains by default, until the authorities could filter and categorize their content. Using “GFWatch”, researchers tested 534 million distinct domains from April to December 2020, accessing around 411 million domains on a daily basis, and sorted out about 311,000 domains currently blocked by the China's Great Firewall, in which 40% of them are newly registered domains. The most frequently blocked ones include commercial, pornographic or news media.
Moreover, as the pandemic grew more intense last year some of the COVID-19 related websites are also banned, such as covid-19truth.info. In addition, some domains are accidentally blocked for name similarity with intentionally block sites. For instant, bookreddit.com is also blocked when the Chinese authorities blocks reddit.com, which make Chinese students hard to use those online resources for learning.
