On June 4, 1989, thousands of unarmed student protesters, calling out for freedom and #democracy, were mercilessly gunned down in droves and “mown down” by the Chinese military. “It was probably thought that the massacre of a few hundreds or thousands would convince the [Chinese] population not to pursue their protests. It seems to be working,” reads a statement by the Canadian diplomats in Beijing in 1989. Read more:
