Taiwan seizes chance to host foreign reporters kicked out of China
 
Taiwan is courting journalists fleeing China, spotting an opportunity to boost its visibility and build international support as concerns mount that Beijing is flirting with the idea of invading the country.

 Last year, more than 20 journalists made the journey across the Taiwan Strait from China. Many had published articles critical of human rights abuses against the Uyghur Muslim minority in Xinjiang and the government’s early handling of the coronavirus outbreak in Wuhan.

Huawei allegedly spies on Dutch telecom users including political figures, arose Dutch regulators investigation

Netherland's media De Volkskrant obtained a confidential document alleges that Huawei had access to monitor the calls of users of KPN, the largest telecommunications network in the Netherlands, 10 years ago. The Guardian reported that the confidential report, made for KPN by the Capgemini consultancy firm in 2010, concluded that Huawei could have been monitoring the calls of approximately 6.5 million users without KPN’s knowledge, including politicians such as former prime minister Jan Peter Balkenende and Chinese dissidents. Both KPN and Huawei deny the allegations. The Dutch telecommunications regulator announced on Monday (19 April) that it will investigate the incident.

According to the report, Huawei staff in the Netherlands and China could have monitored calls made by Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende, local dignitaries, and Chinese dissidents. "The continued existence of KPN Mobile is in serious danger because permits may be revoked or the government and businesses may give up their confidence in KPN if it becomes known that the Chinese government can eavesdrop on KPN mobile numbers and shut down the network", de Volkskrant quotes the report.

Japanese media: Chinese People’s Liberation Army suspected instructing hackers to attack about 200 Japanese companies and research institutes 
 
Japan NHK quoted a news and stated, Tokyo police discovered there is a Chinese hacker organisation launched a large-scale cyber-attack on about 200 research institutes and private companies including the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). The Japanese authorities suspect that these hackers were instructed by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army. 
 
The source revealed to the Japan Broadcasting Association, JAXA has been cyber-attacked in 2016. Tokyo police have targeted a 30-year-old Chinese system engineer, accusing him of being a member of the Chinese Communist Party. He was accused of renting domestic servers under a false name to attack the systems of multiple institutions. 
 
He is alleged to have forwarded these server numbers and related certificates to a Chinese hacker organisation called Tick. The man has left Japan, but the Japanese Metropolitan Police Department submitted the man’s case to the prosecutor as early as Tuesday, accusing him of falsifying digital records.

Human Right Watch report: Crimes against humanity are occurring in Xinjiang, “Using UN investigations” and advocating various governments to sanction and prosecute Chinese officials 
 
Human Right Watch announced a new report, which stated the suppression from Chinese government targets Uyghurs in Xinjiang and other Turkic Muslims. It includes mass detention, surveillance, restrictions on migration, obliteration of their culture and religion, those are already constituting a “crime against humanity” in international law. Human Right Watch urged United Nations establishes investigation committee, investigating allegations of human rights violations in Xinjiang. Also, it urged governments and enterprises in each country suppress to China, claimed to Chinese government to stop violating human rights, assisting in prosecuting crimes against humanity of sanctioning Chinese officials. 
 
Human Right Watch announced new report which wrote with International Human Rights and Conflict Resolution Clinic on Monday in United States (19April). It stated according to investigations and reports from Human Right Watch, other human right organisations, media and rights protection group, Chinese government’s suppression of the Turkic Muslim population in the Xinjiang Uyghur autonomous region. In the recent years it reaches unprecedented levels, including randomly arrested citizens; the courts severely sentenced without process, torture, and abuse; cultural and political indoctrination; forced labour; large-scale surveillance; restrictions on migration; arbitrary arrests and enforced disappearances; obliteration of their culture and religion; and separation of families.

China may hit back against Japan over Taiwan issue but economic action unlikely, analysts say

China is not likely to shy away from retaliating against Japan over the Taiwan issue but it is expected to take security rather than economic measures, according to analysts.

Tensions have escalated after Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga discussed China-related issues with US President Joe Biden on Friday during talks at the White House. The two leaders called for “peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait”, the first reference to Taiwan – which Beijing claims as its territory – in a joint statement in over 50 years. They also said they would counter China’s “intimidation” in the Asia-Pacific region.
