Lockdown in Qeshqer, Xinjiang, after Suspected New COVID-19 Cases
Since early September, Urumqi, Xinjiang has been recording zero cases of COVID-19, but today (24th Oct) the region of Qeshqer has entered into another lockdown. This afternoon, many netizens said that all flights had been suspended at the Airport of Qeshqer on social media. Some local netizens stated that reason for the lockdown of the city, including the small towns where they live, is a new wave of the pandemic, while some said the region has “public hygiene issues”. The official Disease Control and Prevention at Qeshqer confirmed the lockdown with Mingpao and indicated that the area is currently closed and all flights are grounded, "neither going out nor returning". "The lockdown order has just begun today. The department was waiting for further notice, and everyone is on standby,” the department said.
News on the internet said that the county of Kona Sheher in Qeshqer region has one new case of COVID-19. When Mingpao confirmed with the department, they only replied, “the reasons cannot be said”. They only disclosed that the lockdown only involves the Qeshqer region, and the official may make an announcement later.
The police at Qeshqer city advised the citizens to wear face masks, and be aware of their safety, “not to believe or spread rumours, so as not to causes unnecessary panics, and listen to the official announcements.”

Japanese Minister Criticises China's Attempts to Change the Status Quo. It hopes to join Five Eyes intelligence Alliance to Counter Chinese Threat.
Taro Kono, Japanese Minister of State for Regulatory Reform and Administrative Reform, attended a U.S.-Japan symposium on Friday (23 October). He stated that China's growing military power and making attempts to alter the status quo unilaterally, including East and South China sea, China-India border and Hong Kong, have led Japan interested in joining Five Eyes.
Nikkei, alongside Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), a Washington, D.C. think tank, co-hosted the 17th symposium on "The era of growing U.S.-China rivalry and new administrations in the U.S. and Japan" in Tokyo. Former Japan Defense Minister Taro Kono participated in the meeting through video.
"China's military spending has increased 44 times in the last 30 years... Number of fighter jets, submarines, cruise and missile there's a wide gap between Japan and China," he said. With China's increasingly security load over Hong Kong, "the one country two systems, which had been the current state in Hong Kong, has been brutally destroyed... the international community has to get united and face with this issue.". Kono further said, "although Japan is not an Anglo Saxon nation, and yet Japan shares values with these nations 100%. Therefore Japan should work with the Five Eyes and I hope it will become the Sixth Eye in due course."

Wray: China continues to 'lie, cheat, and steal' in bid for tech dominance
FBI director Christopher Wray said Monday that newly disclosed charges against Chinese intelligence officers are the latest example of China's efforts to gain an unfair economic advantage over U.S. companies, particularly in the technology sphere.
Two Chinese intelligence officers are accused of attempting to "obstruct, influence, and impede a criminal prosecution" of a China-based global telecommunications company, U.S. attorney general Merrick Garland said during a news conference Monday. The company was not identified. The complaint against the two intelligence officers was unsealed Monday in the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of New York, Garland said.
