Beijing said on Thursday it opposed military ties between Washington and Taiwan, after Taiwan leader Tsai Ing-wen confirmed a small number of US troops were present on the island."We firmly oppose any form of official exchanges and military contacts between the United States and Taiwan, oppose US interference in China's internal affairs, and attempts to provoke and stir up trouble," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin.In an interview with CNN, Tsai confirmed US troops were present in Taiwan to help with training.Asked how many US troops were in Taiwan, Tsai replied "not as many as people thought". A ‘Sputnik moment’? Milley hints China’s hypersonic weapons test has left US in arms-race dust

Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley has suggested that China’s recent test of a hypersonic weapon might be a “Sputnik moment,” suggesting the US has fallen way behind in the 21st century arms race.

“What we saw was a very significant event of a test of a hypersonic weapon system. And it is very concerning,” Milley said in a Bloomberg interview. “I don’t know if it’s quite a Sputnik moment, but I think it’s very close to that.”
