US calls on WHO to Invite Taiwan to Attend the World Health Assembly
Unites States Mission in Geneva urged Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the General Director of WHO, to invite Taiwan to attend the World Health Assembly next Monday.
The delegation issued a statement saying that they encouraged WHO to work harder to provide Taiwan with more meaningful cooperation opportunities.
The World Health Assembly next Monday will discuss the global COVID-19 epidemic situations. The delegation thinks that inviting Taiwan to participate is necessary as Taiwan has not recorded a confirmed case of COVID-19 for more than 200 consecutive days, and many countries praised its anti-epidemic performance.
Hundreds of parliamentarians from Europe and Latin America have recently submitted joint signatures to the WHO, requesting Taiwan to attend the World Health Assembly and even join the WHO.

Chinese Research says India and Bangladesh is the Virus Origin, WHO: "Highly Speculative"
Wuhan Virus Pandemic broke out in Wuhan last year in late December. The total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases is approaching 62 million across the world so far. China has been claiming in recent month that the source of the pandemic may be from the United States, France or even Italy, denying the allegation of 'Wuhan Virus originates in China'. Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences publishes a report through Social Science Research Network (SSRN), indicating that the Wuhan Virus "probably" comes from India and Bangladesh, transmitted from monkeys to human, and discovered in Wuhan after half a year. However, the report has not undergone any peer review and, therefore, cannot be considered as a rigorous academic finding.
Mike Ryan, an Epidemiologists at the WHO, said on 27 November that it is "highly speculative" to say the coronavirus not emerged from China. Ryan said at a video meeting in Geneva, "From a public health perspective, it is clear that the Epidemiology investigation should begin at where the human cases first emerged, followed by understanding the cases outbreak and the outbreak process." He added that the WHO had always intended to send researchers to the Wuhan food market to probe the virus origins further.
However, until now, no experts from WHO has been to Wuhan for on-site research. During the mission in July, experts only stayed in Beijing for three weeks. While being asked if any experts would go to Wuhan for the investigation, Director-General of WHO, Tedros, finally confirmed the visit, which would be the first time since the pandemics have started for a year.

#China censors #ZeroCovid debate after #WHO criticises policy
//China’s censors scrambled to wipe out online debate over its zero-Covid strategy on Wednesday after the World Health Organisation (WHO) criticised the country’s hardline approach to crushing the virus.
China is the last major economy glued to a zero-Covid policy and enforces some of the most stringent virus controls anywhere in the world...
Those restrictions have trapped most of Shanghai’s 25 million people in a lockdown with no clear end date, while Beijing has also gradually coralled many of its residents indoors as it battles its biggest outbreak since the pandemic began.
On Tuesday WHO chief #Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus urged China to change tack, saying the approach “will not be sustainable” in the face of new fast-spreading variants.
The intervention prompted China’s army of internet censors to race to snuff out his comments.//
