#Japan Should Not Ignore #TikTok Data Security Risks
Liberal Democratic Party Proposal on Restricting the Use as early as September
Followed by the ban on the use of TikTok in India and the request from the U.S. on the parent company of TikTok for selling the local business of ByteDance, the Ruling Liberal Democratic Party’s Tax Panel Chief of Japan Akira Amari, said that Japan should not ignore the data security risks from the use of TikTok.
During the interview on Fuji Television Network on Aug 16, Amari pointed that other countries such as the United Kingdom, India and the U.S. are aware of the data security risks of TikTok, which the Japanese government should not ignore. “Japan cannot just stand beside and watch because many countries have pointed out the risks,” he said.
Amari added, Japanese companies should assume that partnerships with Chinese firms would lead to data leakage. If Japan compromised on data security, other countries, who supported freedom, democracy and the rule of law, might rule out Japan, which posed a crisis to Japan. “Japan is the country with the least sense of crisis,” said Amari.

Trump hints at banning more Chinese firms, Alibaba included
US President Donald Trump considers more Chinese companies sanctions and Alibaba could be the next target.
Asked at a press conference whether other Chinese companies such as Alibaba would be banned after targeting TikTok, President Trump replied, “Well, we're looking at other things, yes.”
According to a recent CNN analysis, Trump called Jack Ma, the founder of Alibaba, a friend of his after Ma said he would donate supplies to the US for fighting the pandemic. Still, Alibaba might become the next target. In a statement made earlier this month, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced the expansion of the Clean Network programme. He called on US allies around the world to prevent intellectual property, including COVID-19 vaccine research, from being stored and accessed on Chinese cloud-based service providers as such as Alibaba, Baidu, China Mobile, China Telecom and Tencent.

Reuters: ByteDance's Censorship on Indonesian News App Requested Removal of Unfavourable Anti-China Content
Reuters quoted six insiders saying, ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, censored content that was critical of the Chinese government on a popular Indonesian news app "Baca Berita" (BaBe) from 2018 to mid-2020. Keywords including Tienanmen and President Mao were on the banned list.
Quoting various sources, the team at ByteDance's Beijing Headquarter instructed local Indonesian moderators to remove all negative articles related to the CCP on BaBe. Previously Indonesia had banned TikTok briefly for displaying "pornography, inappropriate content and profanity". As ByteDance wanted to lift the ban, they compromised with the government to employ a local TikTok team and strengthened the company's influence in Indonesia. ByteDance acquired Baca Berita shortly after.
Insiders revealed, after the acquisition, ByteDance's Beijing Headquarter created new moderation guidelines for BaBe. Contents perceived as critical of China were prohibited from publishing or they would be removed from the platform. A person directly involved said all articles containing sensitive words, such as Tienanmen and President Mao, had to be taken down. Another direct source said ByteDance also censored an article relating to the South China Sea tension from Antara, an Indonesia official news agency.

Man From China Diagnosed with COVID-19 after Clandestine Entry to Vietnam, Identified Before Causing Community Infection.
The Vietnamese government announced a confirmed case of COVID-19 from a Chinese who enter the country illegally. The local police arrested the 27-year-old man, who entered northern Vietnam with seven other compatriots on the 27th of last month and travelled to Ho Chi Minh City by car, upon arrival and sent to quarantine. He was confirmed a confirmed case on the 12th of this month after nucleic acid tests.
According to VnExpress, the Vietnamese government announced 18 new cases on July 14, including a Chinese illegal entrant who crossed the border from northern Vietnam with seven other people on July 27. They went to Ho Chi Minh City on a three-day car ride. Police found him and arrested the day after, then took him to the city's District 7 Hospital for quarantine and test, where he was finally diagnosed with COVID-19 on 12 August and is currently being treated at Cu Chi Field Hospital.
The Ho Chi Minh City Disease Control Unit said it was fortunate that the case was discovered in time; otherwise, this person would have become a source of infection and spread the virus in the community. As of Sunday (16th), Vietnam reported a total of 962 confirmed cases and 24 deaths. This illegal migrant is case #912.
The epidemic has led the Vietnamese government to close the border since March this year, but incidents of illegal entry of foreigners continue to occur. 152 illegal entrant has been arrested since May, mainly Chinese (72%), followed by Cambodians.

The South China Sea Strategic Situation Probing Initiative (SCSPI), an official Chinese research organization, had frequently released military activities of the United States in the South China Sea and the Taiwan Strait. The SCSPI tweeted on Twitter that a U.S. military EP-3E reconnaissance aircraft operated in the closest distance, 50.19 nautical miles (about 92.95 kilometers), away from the provinces of Guangdong and Fujian. ETtoday, a media of Taiwan, stated that it was a challenge to the tolerance limits of China clearly after further stepping by the U.S. military for 109.67 kilometers recently.
