Swedish Space Corporation halts renewal of contract for on-ground space-tracking with China, citing changes in geopolitical situation
State-run Swedish Space Corporation (SSC) signed a contract with China years ago to assist in the operation of Chinese satellites and allow the usage of a strategic space-tracking station in Australia. However, the company indicated on Monday that they would not renew the contract or seek new business dealings with China after it expires. This decision will inflict heavy losses to Beijing's navigational and space exploration capabilities in the Pacific region.
Anni Bolenius, head of communications at SSC, told Reuters on Monday, "The geopolitical situation has changed since these contracts were signed in the early 2000s. We have to assess where we can do business and it's harder for us to make that assessment regarding the Chinese market now." The contract between SSC and China pertained coordinating the on-ground operations of Chinese satellites, which included meteorological and earth-monitoring satellites.

Pentagon Sees China’s Offensive Space Technology ‘On the March’
China is making sizable, long-term investments in weapons designed to jam or destroy satellites as the nation seeks to rapidly narrow the gap in space technology with the U.S., according to the top intelligence official for the Pentagon’s Indo-Pacific command.
China is pushing to develop antisatellite weapons with capabilities from “dazzling to jamming, to kinetic kill-from-the-ground, from space -- all that, they’re on the march,” Rear Admiral Michael Studeman said this week during an intelligence-security trade group’s webinar.
Studeman’s comments mark the most current unclassified assessment of the counter-space capabilities of a nation that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin repeatedly refers to as the top challenge for U.S. defense planning and spending.

Chinese rocket falls to Earth, NASA says Beijing did not share information
//A Chinese rocket fell back to Earth on Saturday [July 31, 2022] over the Indian Ocean but Nasa said Beijing had not shared the "specific trajectory information" needed to know where possible debris might fall.
US Space Command saidthe Long March 5B rocket re-entered over the Indian Ocean at approximately 12.45pm EDT Saturday (1645 GMT, July 31, 2022), but referred questions about "reentry’s technical aspects such as potential debris dispersal impact location" to China.
"All spacefaring nations should follow established best practices and do their part to share this type of information in advance to allow reliable predictions of potential debris impact risk," NASA administrator Bill Nelson said. "Doing so is critical to the responsible use of space and to ensure the safety of people here on Earth."//
