Mainland China Re-examines Mobile Apps and Bans New User Registration; The Global Times: US-listed Science and Technology Enterprises Need Stricter Supervision

China Cyber Security Review Office announced on 5th July that due to the risk of national security and public benefits, they are reviewing the network safety to “Full Delivery”, “Truck Gang” and “Boss Appointment”. During the review period, those three apps will ban new registration. The announcement stated that it was based on the “National Security Law of the People’s Republic of China” and the “Network Security Law of the People’s Republic of China” to prevent risks from expanding. This action targets the Chinese technological enterprises listed in the United States after the mainland government requested “DiDi Travels" being delisted on 4th July.

The Internet Information Office also announced on 4th July that another mobile app “DiDi” has a serious violation of laws and regulations on collecting and using personal information. The office notified the app store to remove an app from DiDi Technology Co. Ltd based on the “Network Security Law of the People’s Republic of China” regulation. China outspends US in ASEAN investment blitz

China plans to open a big solar panel module plant in Malaysia and build a 580 km highway in Laos, part of a charm offensive as the U.S. steps up efforts to counter Beijing's influence in Southeast Asia.

The plant will be built by Chinese solar power giant Risen Energy, which has agreed to invest 42.2 billion ringgit ($10.1 billion) in the photovoltaic industry in Malaysia, the nation's Ministry of International Trade and Industry announced June 24.

The day before, China held an online meeting with cabinet ministers of partner countries in its Belt and Road infrastructure initiative. Beijing offered COVID-19 vaccines and cooperation as these nations struggle to shift to low-carbon economies. Risen Energy's investment decision likely reflected the wishes of Beijing policymakers.

China's new front in the trade war with Australia — Africa

The end came as a bitter finale to a decades-long tale of intrigue and tragedy.
High up in the mountains straddling the border between Cameroon and the Republic of Congo, Perth-based mining minnow Sundance Resources saw its future extinguished amidst accusations of deceit and corruption.

After more than six months of wrangling and threats of legal action with the Congo government, Sundance boss Giulio Casello discovered to his horror that his former partner, an Australian-domiciled company with Chinese government links, had snared his company's major asset.

Working in tandem with another Beijing-linked group, it had snared the rights to develop one of west Africa's most promising iron ore deposits, the Mbalam-Nabeba project which has been Sundance's main focus for more than 15 years.

Amazon’s Crackdown on Chinese Sellers

Amazon has suspended hundreds of top Chinese sellers over the past two months. The company seems to be just now enforcing its rules for blatant policy violations like manipulating customer reviews. Tactics that some of those sellers have used for years.

Mpow and Aukey were the first major suspended sellers at the end of April. According to Marketplace Pulse data, the list has expanded to nearly 300 individual seller accounts (all based in China) and includes dozens of previously best-selling items. Total yearly sales of the suspended sellers exceed $1 billion.

Fairywill’s powered toothbrush, for example, has been among the top 5 five best-sellers on Amazon for at least three years. It had amassed over 75,000 reviews with an overall 4.5 out of 5-star rating. It had more reviews and routinely out-sold more expensive competitors from established brands like Philips and Oral-B.
