有指大規模限電與中國停止向澳洲買煤有關，國家發改委早前知會10間電力公司，不要向澳洲買媒。內地多個用煤行業飽受衝擊。

浙江義烏、金華、寧波、內蒙、溫州，湖南長沙、江西等多地陸續發出「有序用電」的通知，導致義烏小型企業和小作坊停產、湖南發改委下令晚上交通燈和路燈關閉，十分擾民。與此同時，有網友曝也接到各相關部門的通知，要求限電，或者「開一日停三日」等。

限電措施除了給商戶造成損失，就連居民生活亦大受影響：「浙江現在限電是所有的企事業單位。浙江現在很冷，室內溫度要到3°C以下才能開空調（暖氣）。
