來自印度的報告稱，一種高度危險的病毒的殺滅率高達 75%，其致命性比以前見過的任何病毒都要致命。
尼帕病毒由果蝠傳播，果蝠可以通過接觸水果上殘留的唾液或尿液等受感染的體液將病毒傳播給人類。
這種病毒病例的激增已導致南部喀拉拉邦兩人死亡，該病毒病例曾啟發好萊塢大流行驚悚片《傳染病》。
還發現了另外 5 例病例，其中包括一名受害者的孩子，目前有 800 多人正在接受檢測。
英國衛生安全局（UKHSA）表示正在“密切”監控疫情的爆發。
