I doubt many signed up due to heartfelt support of this breach of covenant. I doubt even more that Mr Tam could get 2m HKers to March in support of these proposals. But there’s a good chance we’d get those sorts of numbers out to oppose them.

Over 2m sign up for electoral reform: Tam Yiu-chung

A campaign in support of Beijing's electoral overhaul for Hong Kong says it has received nearly 2.4 million signatures backing the national legislature's move. The convenor of the campaign, Tam Yiu-chung, said they didn't count overseas signatures or those who put their names down repeatedly. Tam, the only Hong Kong delegate to the National People's Congress Standing Committee, said the signatures represented the views of a fairly large number of people in the SAR. He said getting more than two million people to sign in around 10 days was no small feat.

We would like to think that our modern society would help safeguard #humanrights. However,2021 has not been a glorious year for humanity. #CCP continues to enslave #Uyghurs, eliminates the original language of #mongolian, abuses #HKers freedom of speech and destroys #TheRuleOfLaw. Giant tech monopolies all help #CCPChina to censor anything that mention about #humanrights, #freedom or #justice.

The #worldwiderallyforfreedom shows how angry people are. Let this protest be a start. More and more people will commit themselves to vote out those politicians who say one thing and act as another out and boycott those companies who do not fulfill their corporates duties.

' Electoral changes enhance the quality of democracy'

Chief Secretary Matthew Cheung has rejected criticism of Beijing's overhaul of Hong Kong's electoral system, saying the changes will improve political participation and make the SAR more democratic.

Writing on his blog on Sunday, the city's number two official said the fact that both Legco and the election committee would increase in size shows Beijing's determination and sincerity in expanding the scope of democratic elections here.

Cheung claimed the reforms could ensure that all sectors of society are fully represented in the governing structure, and that there would be balanced participation in politics in a broadly representative system.

While critics have called the overhaul a regression in Hong Kong’s democratic development, the minister argued that’s simply not the case.

He stressed the changes would instead “enhance the quality of democracy here" and improve Hong Kong's governing efficiency.
