This letter was written earlier this year, as #VentusLau, along with 46 other pro-democracy politicians and activists, were arrested and swiftly taken to court on the "national security" charges of "subversion", simply because they organized and participated in the primary elections ahead of the 2020 Legislative Council election. Even as the #CCP attempted to crush their dignity and resolve by subjecting them to a marathon trial which lasted 4 days, Lau could not forget his domestic duties of taking care of his cats! We finally got to shower yesterday (although the water smelled a bit), and had some time to sleep, so I feel a lot better. For now Lai Chi Kok’s prison food isn’t as bad as I imagined, and we even had steak rice for breakfast, which I ate half of.
