Citizens’ Press Conference Statement

In response to the unfortunate passing of a senior citizen injured at the scene in Sheung Shui, the Citizens’ Press Conference expresses its deepest condolences. May he rest in peace.

Regardless of political perspectives, it is unacceptable that innocent civilians fall victim to political brutality. When antagonism between people is a natural occurrence of human civilisations, it is one’s right to defend themselves. The HKSAR Government must concede to the Five Demands, and return to the table of politics to solve conflicts by political means.

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure social stability, and ineffectual decision making would only cause unnecessary sacrifices and tragedies.

Over the past few days, our gallant compatriots at CUHK defended the campus with resolve and resistance. "Live free or die!", they exclaimed, as they stood defiantly in the way of tyranny. The defense of Bridge No. 2 was the first ray of hope in this darkest hour before dawn.

The resistance movement in Hong Kong must advance; Operation Daybreak must proceed; the general strike must not recede. It matters not whether the District Council Election subsists or dies - the people of Hong Kong shall march on with their footsteps sure, until all Five Demands are met.

‘No Division, No Disunion’ has been the bedrock of the progress of this movement. As long as protesters stand valiant and united, the people of Hong Kong shall clear away the obstacles on the highway to a future of our own, a future that must come true.

Update: Clarification on the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act’s ‘6-hour time limit’ rumour

In response to the rumours of a '6-hour' time limit for the clearance of the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act (S. 1838), the Citizens’ Press Conference must stress that there have been no indications for the claim to be true: congressional staff do not know where this claim originated, but it did not come from them.

According to senior Senate staff working on the bill, the hotline typically takes on an internally agreed upon time limit of up to 24 hours or sometimes longer, instead of the alleged 6 hours. The bill thus has not been passed.

The future is yet to come. May all of us stand valiant and true.
Hong Kong Badminton Signs "5+1" After Winning a Match

Lee Cheuk Yiu, an athlete representing Hong Kong in the Yonex-Sunrise Hong Kong Open Badminton Tournament, has defeated his opponent from Thailand in the badminton singles category on November 13. After his victory, he raised all 5 fingers on his right hand, and his index finger on his left hand.

When he met with the press, he said he wanted to share the glory of his victory with all the Hongkongers. When asked what the meaning behind his gesture was, he replied “those who know it would understand.”

While the indefinite social struggle and conflicts have caused massive disruption to local traffic networks and disturbed his mood before the match, he stated that his determination does not only apply in his badminton matches, but also in the Hongkongers’ current fight for freedom. He believes that if people are willing to persevere, Hongkongers would win.
