Shopper fined by police for violating "social distancing guidelines" despite shopping by himself
Mr. Yeung, a passer-by who was fined HK$2000 for "violating social distancing rules", tried to get an explanation from the police, to no avail. A policewoman threatened him, yelling at him and telling him to go to court if he felt he was treated unjustly.
Mr. Yeung explained to journalists that he was shopping alone in Mong Kok and was on his way to the bus station back home, when police suddenly cordoned off the street he was in. He was stopped and searched, and issued a HK$2000 fine for "gathering with others in violation of social distancing guidelines". Mr. Yeung showed the police his shopping receipts and explained that he was by himself, but police rejected his argument.
