Shatin Assistant District Officer refused to allow “Anti-Extradition Bill” working groups, infuriating District Councilors Elected

The Shatin District Council and the Facilities Management Committee had a meeting on March 6 to discuss matters including the establishment of the “Anti-Extradition Bill and community security working group” and raised questions regarding police operation at Shatin's Anti-Extradition Bill march on July 14, 2019.

However, Shatin Assistant District Officer, Simon Wong Tin Pui, claimed no working group will be allowed to “follow-up on and assist with” police officers on the grounds that it is in conflict with the District Council Ordinance. He also refused to allow the installation of a Lennon Wall and stated that "even if the working groups are formed, the District Council Secretariat will not be providing its services.

Wong’s speech caused an uproar among District Councilors including Jimmy Shum.
