The Golden Horse Awards / The reality is beyond the imagination of animation! The situation in Hong Kong is extremely saddening
(23 Nov) The Taiwan Golden Horse Awards ceremony took place this evening with results of the various awards being consecutively announced. The “Best Animated Short Film” award went to “Gold Fish”. In his acceptance speech, Wang Deng-yu (aka Fish Wang), director of “Gold Fish”, highlighted the recent escalating conflict in Hong Kong and stressed, “the reality is beyond the imagination of animation, the current situation in Hong Kong is extremely saddening.”
Director Wang Deng-yu has engaged in art creation for over 20 years; his new film "Gold Fish" adopts a fantasy as the main axis and was adapted from a comic book of the same name. The film describes how society's underclass is continuously exploited, which resonates with many people. The film has just won the Grand Prix at the 2019 Taichung International Animation Festival (TIAF) days before.

Protest against Carrie Lam Honorary Fellowship in Cambridge
( Editor’s Note: The Liaison Office of the Central People's Government Chief Wang Zhi-min lost his job and Junius Ho lost his honorary degree at Anglia Ruskin University because of the protests. When will Carrie Lam lose her fellowship in Cambridge? )
Carrie Lam has always been criticized since the anti-ELAB movement. Hongkongers numbering in the teens demonstrated outside of the University of Cambridge demanding the school withdraw Carrie Lam’s honorary fellowship.
The participants include university students, the Hong Kong Higher Institutions International Affairs Delegation and District Council Elect Suzanne Wu Sui-shan and Ben Lam. Benedict Rogers, the founder of HK Watch also joined the rally in Cambridge to urge the University to revoke Carrie Lam’s honorary fellowship. They held the banner “No Honorary Fellowship to Carrie Lam” and marched from Great St Mary’s Church to Wolfson College.
They criticized Carrie Lam and the HKSAR government led by her has been suppressing the anti-ELAB movement and eroding the freedom in HK. They believe that these actions disqualify her as an honorary fellow of the University of Cambridge.

Bipartisan Move to Nominate Hong Kong Protestors for Nobel Peace Prize
Despite a Capitol Hill choked in the miasma of polarization, the CECC has launched a bipartisan and bicameral decision under Rep. James McGovern (D-MA) and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) to nominate the pro-democracy movement of Hong Kong for the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize.
The letter to the Nobel Peace Prize Committee praised Hong Kong protestors as having “demonstrated … an unwavering commitment to a free and democratic Hong Kong”, while the protests were “impressively organized and coherent, yet notably leaderless and flexible.” The Commissioners urged the committee to recognize the contributions and sacrifice of Hong Kong protestors to the course of democracy in not just Hong Kong, but also the world.
Meanwhile, Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fl) invited activist Nathan Law to attend the State of Union address, calling Law “an inspiration in the fight for freedom and democracy.”

52 Korean Civil Society Organizations Denounce the Arrest of Pro-Democracy Figures by Hong Kong Police: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere"
//...freedom of assembly and association and freedom of expression are basic human rights that must be guaranteed.
We also express our deep concern that the arrest of pro-democracy activists by Hong Kong police could aggravate the social division and confusion at a time when governments and citizens must cooperate to fight the global disaster situation of COVID-19.
...“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere,” the injustice occurring in Hong Kong is, after all, a threat to justice that should be guarded by democratic societies around the world.
Therefore, we will continue to stand in solidarity with the Hong Kong citizens’ peaceful resistance toward democracy till the end. We strongly urge the Hong Kong government to immediately cease its unjust and arbitrary arrests of pro-democracy activists.//

Joseph Gordon-Levitt Calls For Hong Kong Voices: "Freedom fighters/ With faces of pain/ And voices that will be heard"
On Oct 21, 2020, U.S. actor #JosephGordonLevitt is looking for people in Hong Kong to recite a poem titled "Hong Kong Never Sleeps".
The poem describes Hong Kong by the image of water including "fire on water" and "weeping tears of rain". The work also highlights the pro-democracy protests in the city by "bringing together people in the streets" and calling Hongkongers "freedom fighters".
The poem in full reads:
"Hong Kong, she never sleeps
A beauty in the orient
A smiling dragon that breathes
She is fire on water
A city of spirited souls and passing ships
Hong Kong, a world of its own
Where we write our own history
Upon pathways unknown,
But never alone
We forever stand as one
Hong Kong, weeping tears of rain
Bringing together people in the streets
Freedom fighters
With faces of pain
And voices that will be heard
Hong Kong, a home to us all
With layers of landscapes, harbors and hills
Between blue skies and blue seas
On clear days
You can see forever
Hong Kong, our sacred city
Walking and talking through avenues
So full of life
The place we settle in to sleep
And fill with dreams in the night"
Gordon-Levitt urged the interested person to send their recording to:

#ReportersWithoutBorders protests #AppleDaily closure at Chinese embassies in Paris and Berlin
The press freedom advocacy group Reporters Without Borders (#RSF) marched through the streets of Paris and Berlin on June 25, 2021.
They protested the closure of the Hong Kong's pro-democracy newspaper Apple Daily, after Hong Kong's Beijing-backed authorities froze the paper's assets and arrested several executives.
The NGO said on their website that they held "funeral-style processions" to denounce the "killing" of Apple Daily by the Hong Kong government, and to "raise alarm of the threats" posed by the Beijing regime to press freedom globally.
In Paris, RSF placed a coffin and funeral flowers for the Hong Kong paper in front of the #ChineseEmbassy. At the same time, they buried copies of the newspaper in front of the embassy in Berlin.
RSF Secretary-General Christophe Deloire said, "today's funeral is for Apple Daily, but tomorrow's may be for press freedom in China. It's time for the international community to act in line with their own values and obligations and defend what's left of the ,free press in Hong Kong before China's model of information control claims another victim."
