Hong Kong Court Sentences Parentless Autistic Man with Mild Mental Deficiency to 3 Years in Prison
A 38-year-old truck driver with mild mental disability and autism pointed a toy gun at a police vehicle last September.
After being arrested, police found a scalpel and other items in his possession. Under police warning, he confessed that, “I want the police to pay back what they have done to the pro-democracy protesters.”
The driver earlier pleaded guilty to possession of imitation firearms, possession of offensive weapons in public places, and dangerous driving.
The judge said that it was not a crime to feel resented by police brutality. However, seeking revenge by pointing a toy gun at the police vehicle is a crime.
The court sentenced the man, who has been living on his own after the death of his two parents, to 3 years imprisonment.
