HK Old Man Weeps Before Deceased Protesters' Altar: "We will avenge you, we must avenge you"

At 20:09 on Sept 8, 2020, Hongkongers observed a minute of silence for 22-year-old student Chow Tsz-lok who passed away 10 months ago on the same day after falling from height during police operation.

Citizens set up an altar to commemorate Chow outside the carpark where he fell. People lit candles and lay flowers despite police surveillance and interference.

Into the evening, an elderly man, with the support of a walking stick, slowly came before the altar. He put his palms together and bowed while shedding tears.

He said to the altar in a sorrowful voice, "we will avenge you, we must avenge you".

Pro-China School in HK Harshly Penalizes Student for Showing Pro-democracy Slogan on Communication App and Threatens to Boot Him Out

The Heung To Middle School Students' Concern Group informed the media that the school principal and the discipline master met with a Form 4 student on Sept 7, 2020, as pro-democracy slogan was displayed as the student’s profile image on Microsoft Teams.

The student was severely penalized by the school for immediately suspending schooling for a week. Should the student want to continue his study, 2 major demerits are to be recorded to reflect his 'misconduct'. Besides, the school warned him from taking part in any pro-democracy activities in the future, or face expulsion straightaway.

In the presence of the student’s parents, the principal stressed that the school is handling the incident strictly, as it has "dented the school's reputation". It was said that the student has been "working against the school, blowing trivialities into a huge problem to attract public attention", which forced the school to make explanation to the public.

The school is well-known for being a pro-Chinese Communist Party education institution in Hong Kong. The principal even hinted for the student to “seek a new school” in the meeting, saying they did not believe the student would change his behavior. The school went on stressing that a dismissal could be the best solution.

Earlier in June this year, the same school dismissed a teacher for letting the students sing the song "May Glory To Hong Kong".

Protester acquitted over laser pointer possesion; Court questions Police's #professionalism in handling evidence

In November 2019, university student Chow Tsz-lok fell from height at Sheung Tak car park and passed away 4 days later. Memorial activities were initiated in multiple districts, which eventually turned into violent police-civilian clashes.

A female protester was arrested near Wong Tai Sin Temple for possessing a laser pointer and a wrench. She was charged with the possession of offensive weapon. In the end, she was found not guilty and acquitted.

Magistrate Cheung Tin-ngai accused the police of being unprofessional in the handling of evidence and violating the Police General Order. She criticized the officers for storing the evidence in a personal storage for 5 months, and not taking their statement until right before the trial. It is therefore unknown whether the evidence was tempered with and whether it even belonged to the defendant.
