Carrie Lam claimed that a full shutdown of the border is meaningless and keeps ignoring the people's requests, despite all the negativity surrounding the decisions made by her. It has been a rather disastrous month, as community outbreaks happening in various locations and districts of Hong Kong.
Her actions have left many Hong Kongers suspicious of the intentions of her plans. It feels like she is exploiting this disease, and using her actions with dealing with this disease as a tool of revenge against the Hong Kongers, for their support of the anti-extradition protest last year.
She might be thinking that by complying to the Draconian government of China, and responding to the outbreak in this manner, it will force the Hong Kongers to regret over their actions and support for the Anti-Extradition bill.
Over in China, we are witnessing mainland Chinese affected by Covid-19 standing up for their rights, against the Chinese Communist Party. There has been massive public outrage over the government's lack of efforts in combating the disease. Social media posts calling and demanding for democracy, freedoms and autonomy have been appearing in large numbers, so much so that the government is unable to censor every single one of them. This pandemic has awakened the people. They will not tolerate the oppression anymore. None of us can predict the future, but at least, we need these actions of the mainland Chinese to make an impact on the Chinese Communist Party.

What rights do HKers have left? Education has now also fallen, what will happen to the new generation of school kids? Will they all be brainwashed, just the way China likes it?

Tears Shed at Premier of PolyU Siege Documentary in London
The documentary "Inside the Red Brick Wall" was shown in the Open City documentary festival in London on September 11. The film captured one of the most aggressive crackdowns of Hongkonger's fight for democracy during the anti-Extradition movement in 2019, the police siege against protesters in Polytechnic University (#PolyU).
Many Hongkongers that have recently arrived in the UK went to see this documentary. Among them was a pro-democracy supporters, K, who said she took part in one of the demonstrations near the university. K told reporters that the documentary has brought back memories of the crackdown and her involvement in those demonstrations.
She was very saddened because she knew that those endured the sufferings during the siege were ordinary youngsters, real people with flesh and blood. She couldn't help but shed tears as she watched the documentary.
K acknowledged that the screening in UK did provide a platform for Hongkongers to get together, so that they knew they were not alone and can seek support when needed.
She hopes for the documentary to be shown in other countries, to let the world better understand what is happening in Hong Kong. She believes that the question-and-answer session at the end of the show helped local people understand what Hong Kong people has gone through during the movement.

Pro-Democracy Hong Kong Singer #DeniseHo Live-Streams Concert, Vows to Carry On Singing
Pro-democracy Cantopop singer #DeniseHo was scheduled to play in her concert "Becoming the Song" on 8-12 September. However, just 8 days before her concert, the Hong Kong Arts Center abruptly cancelled Ho's venue booking.
Braving many difficulties, Ho went ahead to perform online on September 12, at the original scheduled time.
Ho said that it was like performing in sauna parlour, as the venue she eventually found was without air conditioning; she and her band were soaked in sweat. However, she felt that it was much more memorable experience for everyone than having a concert on a "proper" stage.
Denise Ho was thankful for her supporters. She said, "the best way to thank my supporters is to carry on singing."

Assembly in #London: #Hongkongers and #Ulkranians In Solidarity
Photo album: https://publielectoral.lat/guardiansofhongkong/32822
At Downing Street, London on June 4th, 2022, Hongkongers and Ukrainians organized a fight against dictatorship assembly. The solidarity movement voices support for the fight for freedom across mainly Hongkongers and Ukrainians.
Exiled activist #NathanLaw, a former legislator in Hong Kong and the founder of #Demosisto, was the first guest speaker of the event. He said to the crowd, "no matter where we are from, we are all escaping from the dictatorship regime."
He said that not only Ukrainians but also Hongkongers have been following the Russian invasion news.
Carman Lau Ka-Man, a former Wong Tai Sin District Councillor in 2019, was the next one to speak, urging overseas Hongkongers to do more when they were able to and to help those in Hong Kong who are suffering in jail or under suppression.
"Perhaps 1989 seems quite long ago, but let's not forget what we did in the year of 2019."
#BenedictRoger, the founder of #HongKongWatch, brings a yellow umbrella to the event, saying the umbrella is not only for rainy weather, but also to symbolise the dignity of the people who fight for democracy and the movement against dictatorship regime.
A Ukrainian representative spoke and emphasised that Ukraine is a geographic buffer between Russia and Europe, protecting the whole Europe from Russia. She urged the world to stop using fuel supplied by Russia in order to stand with Ukraine.

"Glory HK": #Hongkongers Raise Glowing Signs amid Storm Clouds on Lion Rock
In Hong Kong, a group of pro-democracy citizens braved the heavy rain and hiked to the top of the #LionRock on the evening of June 9, 2022.
On the mountain, they displayed the light signs that spelled "Glory HK", to commemorate the third anniversary of the 2019 June 9 #AntiExtradition protest march.
When the group reached the summit, however, the hill was shrouded by dense clouds and heavy rain, with a thunderstorm warning from the weather observatory. After discussing their options, the group decided to carry through and set up the sign while they waited for the clouds to clear. Their patience was rewarded after waiting for over an hour; the clouds cleared for a brief moment, and Hong Kong's city lights come into view behind their glowing sign.
Speaking to a reporter, the organizer likened the weather atop the mountain to the outlook for Hong Kong's future: full of dark clouds, but there will be light for those who hold on to the end.
"The oppression keeps Hongkongers from speaking our minds, and even rational debates on the Internet risk violating the authority's red line; however, the beliefs of Hongkongers 3 years ago surely remain engraved in our hearts, and they will never change," said one of the participants.
