Returning Officer Cites Protest Against National Security Law as Reason of Disqualification

According to the Electoral Affairs Commission's Returning Officer (New Territories East) Yeung Wai-sum, Gywneth Ho does not pledge “genuine allegiance" to the Hong Kong Special Adminstrative Region, even though Ho signed a declaration opposing the National Security Law after its enforcement on June 30.

The said declaration was signed and released by pro-protest, pro-democracy candidates on July 15, 2020. The declaration includes statements such as "whether the candidate's declaration mentioned the National Security Law or not, we oppose the National Security Law, regardless."

Among the 16 people who joined the declaration, 6 have been disqualified from running the Legislative Election.
