Myanmar Demonstrators Burnt Chinese Factories; The Military Attacked “Protest Camp” and Killed 11 People

More than two months since the coup in Myanmar, according to the statistics of the local organisation assisting political prisoners, the death toll has reached at least 581. A Chinse factory in Yangon was burnt by the protesters today (7th April) while some protesters raised the slogans of boycott Chinese brands “Xiaomi” and “Huawei”. The military also attacked Hpruso Township in Kayah (Karenni) State, a “Tarhan protest camp” occupied by protesters, making 11 people died.

According to Reuters, some protesters raised the slogans with boycott Chinese brands in Yangon and burnt the flag of China to protest that China has been friendly to the military government who initiated the coup. Because of that, the protesters burnt 32 Chinese factories in Yangon last month, and today they burnt a Chinese clothing factory called JOC.

Food delivery giant Meituan faces anti-trust probe

But those goals are now coming into conflict in the global solar sector, presenting the Biden administration with a tough choice as it looks to expand the use of solar power domestically to reduce the United States’ carbon dioxide emissions.

The dilemma stems from an uncomfortable reality: China dominates the global supply chain for solar power, producing the vast majority of the materials and parts for solar panels that the United States relies on for clean energy. And there is emerging evidence that some of China’s biggest solar companies have worked with the Chinese government to absorb minority workers in the far western region of Xinjiang, programs often seen as a red flag for potential forced labor and human rights abuses.

Plans announced yesterday will extend Beijing’s powers of appointment to the Hong Kong parliament and grant it a veto over all candidates.

Tiger attacks farm worker, damages car

Villagers in China's far northeast were left terrified when a Siberian tiger pounced on a field worker and attacked a car near the remote border with Russia, state media reported.The male juvenile tiger was first spotted Friday roaming close to Linhu village in Heilongjiang province, reported Shanghai-based news outlet The Paper, citing local police."It turned in the direction of two villagers working in the field," said Wang Xue, who had driven to the site to pick up a relative."I shouted at them to run, but the tiger then ran straight in my direction," Wang was quoted as saying by the Beijing News in a Sunday video."In two or three seconds, it ran over and pounced on my car, clawing at it with its paws."The car's exterior was heavily scratched and the back passenger window shattered."I was terrified, and am still suffering from heart issues," said Wang.Neither of the two passengers inside the car was hurt.Video footage also showed the tiger pouncing on one villager working in the field, before running off. The report said the worker suffered minor injuries.Police managed to eventually corner and subdue the animal with tranquiliser darts.According to a Monday report published by the Heilongjiang Forestry Bureau, the big cat was put into a 45-day disease quarantine at the Hengdaohezi Feline Breeding Centre in Mudanjiang city.Siberian tigers are native to Russia and parts of northeastern China. There are estimated to be fewer than 500 left in the wild due to poaching, with fewer than 30 thought to be in China, according to the state newspaper Global Times.Conservationists in China and Russia have made efforts to protect the species, but it is rare for tigers to enter human settlements.
