The first thing we think of is how injustice #CCP is taking over tech companies. However, those tech companies have always had unfair advantage in #China, and majority of shares are owned by CCP officials. For CCP to take over means a shift of power and those shares confiscated.

What we should be worried about is the how much big data they have collected. Without laws and the public monitoring, #CCPChina is already leading in big data & AI. It is hard to imagine what the world will be like in the future.
Reuters: First Time Since 4th June for EU Ambassadors Agreed to Sanction China

According to a Reuters report, EU ambassadors agreed on the 17th March for applying sanction to four Chinese officials and one entity, being the first time for the EU to sanction China since 4th June 1989. The sanction list will be formally announced on 22nd March after passed by the EU Foreign Minister.

According to the report, the sanctioned Chinese officials are all related to the Uyghurs Muslims' human rights violation. The content of the sanction included the implementation of travel bans and asset freezes. The Reuters report also stated, although the sanction is only symbolic, they reflect the EU’s tendency to be tough on China.

#XinjiangCotton: How do I know if it's in my jeans?

Xinjiang cotton is some of the best fabric in the world. It's also, human rights campaigners say, produced by forced labour.

Please bear in mind that Xinjiang cotton accounts for 85% of Chinese production and 20% of world supply.

Some Western brands have removed it from their supply chains, leading to a backlash from Chinese celebrities and netizens. Welcome to the row over cotton from the Xinjiang region of China.

Certification schemes for cotton mills, such as Yarn Ethically & Sustainably Sourced (Yess), work to eliminate forced labour from the supply chain.  But that's of limited help to you as a consumer if you're just ordering a pair of jeans off a retailer's website.

"If you really want to be confident of the traceability of the cotton in your jeans, you have to look for Soil Association organic cotton or Fairtrade," advises Clare Lissaman from Common Objective (CO), a sustainable fashion sourcing platform.

Oscars Dumped by Hong Kong’s TVB After China Censorship Order

The city’s largest TV network TVB, has broadcast the Academy Awards on its English-language channel every year since 1969, when musical ‘Oliver!’ won Best Picture. However, other local broadcasters in Hong Kong including Now TV, Viu TV and Cable TV also don’t have the broadcast rights.

The awards will take place in Los Angeles on April 25. “Do Not Split,” which chronicles the 2019 demonstrations against China’s tightening grip over the former British territory, was nominated for best short documentary.

The Communist Party’s propaganda department told all local media outlets to scrap live broadcasts of the Oscars.
