Refusing coal from Australia, China eventually buy Australian coal indirectly from other countries at high price

As China-Australia relation getting strained, China imposed trade restriction towards Australia, preventing Australian coal vessels with coal from unloading in China. Local news outlet News.com.au quoted coal mining company Whitehaven Coal's quarterly report, which said that while China purchase coal from other countries, what it gets is still Australian coal.

The company noted in its quarterly report that China has banned Australia coal but “has supplemented its domestic production with higher cost coal from alternative countries such as Russia, Indonesia and South Africa,” which in effect subsidizes China's domestic coal production. The report also said as China experienced a cold winter this year, domestic coal demand is rising, and China had to raise total coal import quota late in 2020.

The report further to point out that, Australian coal has found new markets. “Instead of being delivered to China, Australian coal is now finding customers in alternative destinations, including India, Pakistan and the Middle East, and traded coal historically delivered into these markets is finding its way into China.”

India to clear 45 investments from China, likely to include Great Wall, SAIC - sources

Government and industry sources said to clear 45 investment proposals which had been held up since last year after Indian tightened controls Chinese investment in the country n retaliation against alleged Chinese troop incursions in the western Himalayan region. China blamed Indian troops for the standoff. Those investment included those from Great Wall Motor and SAIC Motor Corp

About 150 investment proposals from China worth more than $2 billion were stuck in the pipeline. Companies from Japan and the U.S. routing investment through Hong Kong were also caught in the cross-fire as an inter-ministerial panel led by the interior ministry increased scrutiny of such proposals.

SAIC, which started selling cars in India in 2019 under its British brand MG Motor, has invested around $400 million of the nearly $650 million it has committed to India and would need approval to bring more investment.

Great Wall plans to invest $1 billion in India over the next few years and had planned to start selling cars in India from this year.

The reports said that even the elderly prisoners of faith were not spared from the humiliating abuses, and neither did the guards hesitate to electrocute the detained women's private parts. “They didn’t spare any part of the body […] And it is not just one person who torments you, not just one predator. Each time they were two or three men.”

It is not enough for Ron DeSantis to "sanction" the CCP. One with legal and lawful authority must actively combat the CCP and work to end human sex trafficking and Triad influence in the State of Florida. The fact that DeSantis won't attempt to do so shows that he's part of the Swamp. We need a truly patriotic governor in the State of Florida who will address these issues and work to solve them, aggressively.

UK watchdog fines CGTN for licence breaches

British regulators on Monday imposed fines of £225,000 (US$311,000) on Chinese news network CGTN, having already revoked its licence, and upheld a further two complaints made by Hong Kong dissidents.Ofcom fined the network £100,000 over a complaint brought by a UK national, Peter Humphrey, who says he was forced to make a criminal confession aired by China Global Television Network (CGTN) in 2013.The regulator ruled that CGTN, which was called CCTV News before 2016, "ought to have been aware that, in light of the fact he was confessing to offences in advance of trial and in the presence of those who were holding him in custody, there were reasons to doubt whether Mr Humphrey's consent was genuine and informed."Humphrey was jailed for more than two years by a court in Shanghai in 2014 in connection with a corruption case involving pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline. The Chinese broadcaster, whose licence was owned by Star China Media, justified the controversial report to Ofcom on public-interest grounds, arguing it had obtained Humphrey's consent and was not aware of any mistreatment.CGTN must also pay £125,000 after Ofcom ruled that five programmes aired in 2019 covering the Hong Kong pro-democracy protests "had failed to maintain due impartiality".Ofcom revoked CGTN's licence last month after finding the state-backed ownership structure broke UK law. However, it is still liable for penalties over programmes aired while it had a licence. It could face further fines after Ofcom upheld the complaints of two high-profile dissidents, former British consulate worker Simon Cheng and publisher Gui Minhai.Last month, the mainland broadcasting regulator banned BBC World News, accusing it of flouting guidelines over a hard-hitting report about Beijing's treatment of the Uighur minority.
