UN event turns spotlight on plight of Uyghurs
Dozens of countries raised awareness about China's treatment of Uyghur Muslims in Xinjiang at a meeting at the United Nations on Wednesday, angering Beijing, which had lobbied member states to stay away from what it described as an anti-China event."We will keep standing up and speaking out until China's government stops its crimes against humanity and the genocide of Uyghurs and other minorities in Xinjiang," US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield told the virtual event.Western states and rights groups accuse Xinjiang authorities of detaining and torturing Uyghurs and other minorities in camps. Beijing denies the accusations and describes the camps as vocational training facilities to combat religious extremism."In Xinjiang, people are being tortured. Women are being forcibly sterilized," Thomas-Greenfield said.Amnesty International secretary general Agnes Callamard told the event there was an estimated 1 million Uyghurs and predominantly Muslim ethnic minorities who have been arbitrarily detained. In a note to UN member states last week, China's UN mission rejected the accusations as "lies and false allegations" and accused the organizers of being "obsessed with provoking confrontation with China." China urged countries "NOT to participate in this anti-China event."The event was organized by Germany, the United States and Britain and co-sponsored by Canada, Australia, New Zealand and several other European nations. Germany's UN Ambassador Christoph Heusgen said countries who sponsored the event faced "massive Chinese threats," but did not elaborate.British UN Ambassador Barbara Woodward described the situation in Xinjiang as "one of the worst human rights crises of our time," adding: "The evidence ... points to a program of repression of specific ethnic groups."She called for China to allow "immediate, meaningful and unfettered access" to UN human rights chief Michelle Bachelet.Human Rights Watch executive director Kenneth Roth called out Bachelet for not joining the event. A spokesperson for Bachelet did not immediately respond to a request for comment."I'm sure she's busy. You know we all are. But I have a similar global mandate to defend human rights and I couldn't think of anything more important to do than to join you here today," Roth told the event. (Reuters)

Japanese media: Chinese People’s Liberation Army suspected instructing hackers to attack about 200 Japanese companies and research institutes
Japan NHK quoted a news and stated, Tokyo police discovered there is a Chinese hacker organisation launched a large-scale cyber-attack on about 200 research institutes and private companies including the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). The Japanese authorities suspect that these hackers were instructed by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army.
The source revealed to the Japan Broadcasting Association, JAXA has been cyber-attacked in 2016. Tokyo police have targeted a 30-year-old Chinese system engineer, accusing him of being a member of the Chinese Communist Party. He was accused of renting domestic servers under a false name to attack the systems of multiple institutions.
He is alleged to have forwarded these server numbers and related certificates to a Chinese hacker organisation called Tick. The man has left Japan, but the Japanese Metropolitan Police Department submitted the man’s case to the prosecutor as early as Tuesday, accusing him of falsifying digital records.

India blocks China-made wireless device imports: Report
India has held up approvals for import of wifi modules from China for months, driving companies such as United States-based computer makers Dell and HP and China’s Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo and Lenovo to delay product launches in a key growth market, two industry sources have told the Reuters news agency.
Imports from China of finished electronic devices – like bluetooth speakers, wireless earphones, smartphones, smartwatches and laptops – containing wifi modules are being delayed, the sources said.

Chinese ‘spy’ aided Congressional Democrats, slept with politicians to gain influence, anonymous US officials claim
A Chinese student slept with two Midwest mayors and cultivated California Democrats while allegedly spying for Beijing, an Axios report said, even as a Beijing professor boasted on video about having ‘people at the top’ in the US.
Between 2011 when she came to the US as a student and her abrupt and unexplained departure in mid-2015, Christine Fang worked her way into the confidences of a number of prominent Democrats in the San Francisco Bay Area, Axios reported on Monday. Fang appeared in photos alongside Judy Chu, Mike Honda, Ro Khanna, and Eric Swalwell – an Intelligence Committee member who rose to prominence by championing the ‘Russiagate’ conspiracy theory against President Donald Trump.

Blackouts reported across Taiwan after plant outage
A rotational electricity blackout was implemented across Taiwan on Thursday following an outage at a major power plant, the government said. President Tsai Ing-wen called for calm, saying the power supply would be gradually resumed as workers conducted emergency restoration work. In a text alert sent to residents, authorities said Taiwan did not have enough electricity capacity in its grid, after an outage at the Hsinta Power Plant in the southern port city of Kaohsiung at around 2:30pm. It said a rotational blackout would be implemented across the island as a result. The official Central News Agency said many cities across Taiwan were suffering blackouts, including Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Taichung, Yilan, Tainan and Kaoshiung. Taiwan's electricity supplier Taipower said the outage was caused by a technical failure in the plant.Cabinet spokesman Lo Ping-cheng urged people not to spread misinformation about the incident, adding that Taiwan's airports and high speed railway system had not been affected. The Belt & Road Initiatives has never been an investment project. #Beijing never has to lend a dime to those countries. In fact, they export their excessive resources & labor which don't contribute into the countries' GDP. The only reason why political leaders accept these terms is bribery.
However, with BRI, #CCP is able to control the #UN, #WHO, colonize other countries, & foreign currency. If any politician suggests about getting involved with BRI, you know they are selling the country.
