British Parliament Report Urged to Early Remove Huawei Equipment as China Injected Nearly 600 Billion to Huawei for 3 Years

The Defence Committee of the British Parliament indicated today (8th October) that there was clear evidence showing Huawei, China Telecom Equipment Manufacturer, colluded with the Chinese government, and that the Chinese government injected 75 billion USD (5,85 billion HKD) to assist in Huawei expanding. China suggested that England accelerate its pace for completing the removal of Huawei equipment by 2025. The spokesperson of Huawei indicated that the report from the committee was not reliable as the content was not the truth.

Accusation on Huawei of Being Funded by the Chinese authorities, to Sell Equipment at Low Prices to Seize the Market

According to Reuters, the Defence Committee of the British Parliament had a meeting today, indicated that there was clear evidence to show Huawei colluded with the Chinese government and urged that England should remove all the Huawei equipment early. The committee stated that the western countries urgently needed to unite and balance China’s technological advantages, as well as removing all the Huawei equipment by 2025, two years earlier than the originally scheduled date in 2027.

According to the BBC, the Parliament report quoted from a venture investor that he knew the Chinese government injected 750 billion USD for helping the expansion of Huawei within three years. Because of having state funding, they could sell the telecommunications equipment to countries at low prices. A scholar, who specializes in corporate misconduct, stated in the report that Huawei had been engaging in various intelligence, security, and intellectual property activities, but Huawei has always denied it. The report also stated that England did not have to fall into hysterical anti-China, but changing policy was perhaps required.

The Chinese Embassy Sent a letter to the Indian media, opposing their Introduction and the Blessings on Double Ten Day to Taiwan

October 10, 2020 marks the 109th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of China (#ROC; Taiwan).

Indian media expressed their goodwill. Apart from the full-page advertisements for Taiwan’s National Day on the two major newspapers, pay-TV stations produced albums with the Taiwan authorities to introduce Taiwan with the cooperation between India and Taiwan, and the fact of Taiwan donating masks to India preventing and controlling the epidemic.

However, the Chinese Embassy in India sent a letter to Indian media, reminding them to abide by the “One China Principle” and not to send the wrong message to the public. This action drew criticism from Indian journalists. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan also criticized China on Twitter for extending its censorship to India.

Questioning China’s indirect threat

An independent journalist Aditya Raj Kaul uploaded a letter sent by the Chinese Embassy in India to various media on his Twitter. The embassy reiterated the One-China Principle in the letter that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China and has become an international consensus. All the countries and Indian media should abide by related policies and perspectives and should not violate the principle. “Taiwan should not be considered as a 'country', or described as 'Republic of China', or described Taiwan leader as 'president'" called the media should not send the wrong message to the public. Other than uploading the letter, Kaul also questioned whether this is an indirect threat to Indian media that reported on Taiwan?

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan also quoted the post of Kaul on Twitter, indicated that India is the largest democratic country in the world with vibrant and freedom-loving people. Yet, Communist China hoped to enter India as a subcontinent through censorship. Indians in Taiwan only replied, “disappear!”

Xi warns 'invaders' as China marks Korean War

President Xi Jinping issued a sharp warning on Friday to potential "invaders" of Beijing's military resolve, speaking on the 70th anniversary of his nation's entry into the Korean War, the only time Chinese forces have fought US rivals. In a long speech, heavy on patriotism and flecked by anecdotes of heroism by Chinese forces, Xi said victory in the 1950-53 conflict was a reminder that his nation stood ready to fight anyone "creating trouble... on China's doorstep".Beijing frequently uses war anniversaries to fire thinly covered warnings to the US of the military strength of the "new China".The Korean War is a key foundation story for the ruling Communist Party, which in recent years has been the target of US President Donald Trump, in a bitter row spanning trade, tech, human rights and the status of Taiwan, which China says is an inviolable part of the mainland."Chinese people don't create troubles, nor are we afraid of them," Xi said to applause."We will never sit back and watch any damage to our national sovereignty... and we will never allow any force to invade or divide the sacred territory of the motherland."The Korean War was the first and so far only time Chinese and US forces have engaged in large-scale direct combat.According to the Chinese government, more than 197,000 Chinese soldiers died during the three-year war, which saw the US-led United Nations coalition pushed back to the 38th parallel bisecting the Korean Peninsula, after China weighed in on the side of North Korea's communist army. With tensions again running high between Beijing and Washington, China is making much of the 70th anniversary of its forces entering the fight, intended as much for domestic consumption as it is a warning to its superpower rivals.Chinese state media have unleashed a wave of propaganda with daily interviews with Chinese veterans who survived the war during prime-time news over the past week.An action-thriller "Sacrifice", directed by three of the biggest names in Chinese cinema and depicting a small band of Chinese troops holding off US forces in the final days of the war hit cinemas across the country on Friday. Huawei revenue growth wilts under 'intense pressure'

Huawei's revenue growth slowed significantly in the first nine months of 2020, the Chinese telecom giant said Friday, citing "intense pressure" on operations during the coronavirus and as the US moves to cut off its access to vital components.Huawei, the leading global supplier of telecoms networking equipment and a top smartphone producer, said it grossed 671.3 billion yuan (US$100.7 billion) in revenue in January-September, up 9.9 percent year-on-year.That's down from 24.4 percent growth over the same period last year, while its profit margin fell to 8.0 percent from 8.7 percent last year.Washington views Huawei, founded in 1987 by former People's Liberation Army engineer Ren Zhengfei, as a Chinese espionage threat and has lobbied allies to shun its gear while attempting to block its access to global semiconductor supplies."As the world grapples with Covid-19, Huawei's global supply chain was put under intense pressure and its production and operations saw increasing difficulties," the company said.It vowed to "do its best to find solutions, to survive and forge ahead".The brief announcement made no direct reference to the US pressure, nor did it include a performance breakdown for its various segments, such as smartphone sales. Privately held Huawei provides such details only for half-year and full-year earnings.Bad news has been mounting for Huawei, which the United States alleges is controlled by Beijing.Washington fears Huawei's equipment could contain security holes that China could use for spying but the firm and Beijing reject the claim, saying the US has never provided any evidence.Washington has essentially barred Huawei from the lucrative US market and pressured allies to do the same.Britain in July banned mobile providers from using Huawei equipment in their new 5G networks, giving British companies until 2027 to rip out any existing hardware.France has also placed heavy restrictions on use of Huawei gear and Sweden this week banned thje company and Chinese rival ZTE from its own 5G network for security reasons. US State Department Reportedly Recommends Putting China’s Ant Group on Trade Blacklist

As US-China relations remain tense, sources have indicated to Reuters that the State Department had proposed placing Ant Group on the trade blacklist to the Trump administration ahead of its listing on the US stock market.

A financial technology firm, Ant Group is planning to be listed on stock markets in Shanghai and Hong Kong with an estimated market value of a record-breaking 35 billion US dollars. It is unclear at the moment as to when the US government will add the firm to its Entity List, but it is believed that this is a sign from hardliners in Washington that American investors should refrain from taking part in the firm’s initial public offering.

While the local law makes it difficult for US firms to sell high-tech products to companies on the Entity List, how this latest move actually affects China is still a matter of debate. Reuters noted that while telecom companies like Huawei may suffer from being blacklisted, placing a fintech firm on the list could be more of a gesture.
