🇹🇼❌🇨🇳 — 🇨🇳🇭🇰 SCMP | Taiwan president oversees annual military drill amid tensions with Beijing | 27-07-22
— "Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen boarded a warship on July 26, 2022, to watch a live-fire air and naval drill simulating the island’s military response to a potential People’s Liberation Army attack from mainland China.
The drill was part of the annual five-day Han Kuang, a series of war games considered to be Taiwan’s most-important military exercise of the year. Taipei has come under growing pressure from Beijing, which claims Taiwan as its own territory and has not ruled out the use of force to take control of the island.
Taiwan has also become a major point of friction between Beijing and Washington, amid reports that US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi plans to visit the island in August."

🇺🇸🇹🇼❌🇨🇳 — 🇨🇳🇭🇰 SCMP: US aircraft carrier group heads towards Taiwan as tension over Nancy Pelosi’s possible visit continues to grow
— "China and the United States are building up their military strength around the Taiwan Strait as tensions rise over US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s possible visit to the island.
The American aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan and its strike group, including a guided missile destroyer and a guided missile cruiser, set out from Singapore on Monday heading northeast towards the South China Sea, according to ship-tracking information provided by Beijing-based think tank the South China Sea Strategic Probing Initiative.
The US military has not disclosed its final destination, but the route would bring the carrier group to the Taiwan Strait if it continues in the same direction. Meanwhile, China is also building up its aerial strength in the region."

China aims for 'best possible results' for economy
China will try hard to achieve the best possible results for the economy this year, state media said on Thursday after a high-level meeting of the Communist Party. In the second half of 2022, China should "stabilise employment and prices, maintain economic operations within a reasonable range, and strive to achieve the best possible results," state-run Xinhua news agency reported, after the 25-member Politburo chaired by President Xi Jinping met to assess the economy.Gross domestic product in the first half grew 2.5 percent from a year earlier, pointing to huge pressure in the second half, amid fears of a global recession, uncertainties from the Ukraine war and worries of any recurring Covid lockdowns.Xi, at the opening of a Brics forum on June 22, said China would take more measures to achieve its annual economic goals, while minimising the impact of its Covid-19 prevention and control as much as possible. But during an inspection tour in the central city of Wuhan on June 28, he said China will "strive to reach a relatively good level of the economic development this year".Similarly, last week, Premier Li Keqiang said at the World Economic Forum that China will "strive for relatively good results in economic development for the whole year".
