Experts said the exercises practiced a vital part of the future large-scale amphibious landing operations on the island that will see the PLA seize air superiority and control of the sea, and sent a clear and powerful warning to the US and the Taiwan secessionists on the 39th anniversary of the China-US August 17 Communiqué, in which the US promised to restrict arms sales to Taiwan but repeatedly broke its promise, and also at a time when the US military has lost credibility after its irresponsible, hasty and embarrassing troop withdrawal from Afghanistan.

🇮🇳 NDTV | Afghan Vice President Amrullah Saleh Says He Is "Legitimate Caretaker President" | 17-08-21
— "Afghan First Vice President Amrullah Saleh said on Tuesday he was in Afghanistan and the "legitimate caretaker president" after President Ashraf Ghani fled the country as Taliban insurgents took the capital Kabul.
Saleh told a security meeting chaired by Ghani last week that he was proud of the armed forces and the government would do all it could to strengthen resistance to the Taliban.

But the country fell to the Taliban in days, rather than the months foreseen by US intelligence.

In a series of tweets on Tuesday, Saleh said that it was "futile" to argue with US President Joe Biden, who has decided to pull out US forces.

He called on Afghans to show that Afghanistan "isn't Vietnam & the Talibs aren't even remotely like Vietcong"."

❗️ATOMIC IRAN? Iran accelerating enrichment of uranium to NEAR WEAPONS-GRADE, according to IAEA.

Iran has enriched uranium to near-weapons grade, the UN atomic watchdog says in its report, seen by Reuters Tuesday.

The country increased the purity of which it refines uranium from 20 to 60% in April. Tehran said the move was in response to an explosion and power cut at its Natanz nuclear site, which it blamed on Israel. The IAEA report apparently suggests, there're even more centrifuges at work now, used to purify uranium.

Weapons-grade purity is said to be at about 90%.
