Interview: Ukrainian Student in Hong Kong Calls for Support, and Speaks of Difficult Times for her Family and Homeland
“I am 18. I just came to Hong Kong for studying. I hope Ukraine is free.” A Ukrainian student in Hong Kong said.
She was standing on the streets near Central, holding signs calling for solidarity with Ukraine, and for NATO to establish a no-fly zone to protect her homeland.
“I am 18. I came from Ukraine to Hong Kong last September. I am a Ukrainian."
"I feel sad for my family. I haven’t seen them for over half a year. Not sure what will happen in every coming minutes, because you never know if anything will happen in the city there."
"The thing happened like this - when I answered a call from my friend about the war, I was terrified and shocked. I couldn’t believe that has happened. When the war happened, everyone in Ukraine was sleeping, so I called them and woke them up. Then they started to wake up their families and friends."
"Luckily, my family is safe, so far. They are far from the war zone, but the situation is quite unpredictable at the moment."
"I noticed that keeping myself busy is a way to make myself feel better, because if not then you will just be reading the news, Russian propaganda."
"I am still in touch with my family. Connection in Ukraine is relatively stable right now. The cities that were so harmed by the war no longer has electricity, so it’s tough for people who didn’t have heating. I heard that the government is trying to restore all of them, but it’s quite not possible from all the constant attacks."
"I would like to say 'thank you' for Ukraine and Ukrainians in this tough and challenging time. We really appreciate the support of the world. We really want to work together and stop the war to save thousands of children, even the soldiers. Nobody has to die for the war. I just want to say thank you, and stay strong.”

China-Russian hails ties and scorns international sanctions against Moscow's invasion in Ukraine calling them "illegal" and "counter-productive"
At a time when Russia is being condemned by the international community for its all-out invasion in Ukraine, China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on March 30, 2022 that the desire of China and Russia to develop bilateral relations has become even "stronger" so has the confidence to promote cooperation in various directions.
#WangYi and his Russian counterpart #SergeiLavrov emerged from their meetings with a show of unity, appearing to reaffirm their countries' friendship and criticising economic sanctions imposed by the West against Moscow for invading Ukraine as "illegal" and "counter-productive."
"China-Russia relations have withstood the new test of changing international landscape," Wang said after the meeting. "China is ready to work with Russia to take China-Russia relations to a higher level in the new era."
China has refused to condemn Russia's invasion outright, and it abstained from voting on United Nations resolutions demanding Moscow immediately stop its attack on Ukraine.
Instead, Beijing has accused the United States of intensifying tensions, while highlighting Moscow’s “legitimate security concerns” regarding the eastward expansion of #Nato.
