Beijing officials have told Hong Kong’s political elites that the city’s No 2 official, John Lee Ka-chiu, will be the sole candidate to receive the blessing of the central government in this year’s chief executive election.
One source said Beijing’s liaison office in Hong Kong had told Election Committee members during meetings on Wednesday morning that Lee would be the only candidate for the post with the central government’s support.
